What is Blackboard?
Blackboard
Blackboard is a Web-based course-management system designed to allow students
and faculty to participate in classes delivered online or use online materials
and activities to complement face-to-face teaching. Blackboard enables instructors
to provide students with course materials, discussion boards, virtual chat,
online quizzes, an academic resource center, and more.
The degree to which Blackboard is used in a course varies. You can use it
in three different variations:
- Online Course or Distance Learning
Course - This type of course is taught completely online from
within the Blackboard environment.
- Hybrid Course - This course type is made up of 50% online
and 50% face-to-face instruction.
- Web-enhanced - This course type uses Blackboard
to supplement a 100% face-to-face course. You can use Bb to post syllabi,
course notes, powerpoint presentations or most anything you review in
class. It is also an excellent way to engage student outside the classroom
through Bb discussion boards.
