Garrett County Information
Garrett
County is Maryland's westernmost county. Established in 1872,
the County was named for John Work Garrett, the president
of the Baltimore & Ohio
Railroad. Considered Maryland's mountain-top playground, the
County consists of parks, lakes, and publicly-owned forest
land.
Deep
Creek Lake, Maryland's largest inland body of water,
is the focus of the County's recreation industry. The lake,
which covers almost 4,000 acres, is a favorite getaway
for summer travelers. The Wisp Ski Resort on the shores
of Deep Creek Lake is a popular attraction for winter
travelers. Although best known for Deep Creek Lake and the
Wisp, Garrett County offers so much more: hunting, fishing,
hiking, mountain biking, skiing, horseback riding, and backpacking
.
In
the center of all this natural beauty lies Garrett College
overlooking Deep Creek Lake and the Wisp Ski Area. Garrett
offers quality and affordable education. We invite you to visit
