The Trucking Industry
Trucking plays a major part in the country's
economy with jobs available in areas such as drivers, mechanics, safety
supervisors, managers, etc. Trucking is a growing industry and an
important part of the economic growth of this country.
Most local drivers work for businesses which deliver their own products and goods such as department stores, food stores and lumber yards. Many others are employed by trucking companies. A large number of local truck drivers are owner-operators who own one or more trucks.
Some long distance drivers have short "turnarounds" where they deliver a load to a nearby city, pick up another loaded trailer and drive it back to their home overnight. Other long distance drivers have "longhauls" that keep them away from home for weeks at a time. Some work for companies which own and operate their own trucks to deliver their own products. A significant number of drivers are owner-operators who own their own trucks and operate independently or lease their services and trucks to a trucking company. |
