Satisfactory Progress
Students are considered to be making satisfactory progress towards graduation by maintaining specified grade averages as well as proceeding through the curriculum at a pace leading to completion in a specified time frame. Students not meeting the school's standards of satisfactory progress are subject to dismissal and will lose eligibility for federal financial aid. For purposes of determining and monitoring satisfactory progress, the curriculum is divided into courses in which students receive grades. Garrett College maintains student records permanently and evaluations of academic progress are furnished to the students at the end of the program. A student who receives an incomplete for a course will arrange make-up sessions with the program director.

In accordance with the add/drop policies of the College, a student may withdraw (stop attending) before completing a course by submitting a written request for withdrawal. If a student fails a course, or courses, and later returns to retake the course(s), the grades received in the repeated course(s) will be the ones used in the calculation of the cumulative grade point average.

Attendance
Students are required to attend at least 80% of the hours offered in each course (except driving hours, where 90% is required). In exceptional instances, students may apply for a grade of incomplete ("I"), but the instructor is not required to grant such requests and incomplete grades are rarely given. Incomplete grades must be resolved by the end of the next class rotation. Students may withdraw from the program during the stated withdrawal period but must do so in writing. However, tuition and fees would again be required upon re-enrollment. Refunds, if any, follow the respective credit and noncredit policies and procedures. Withdrawal from the program could impact on Federal financial aid for the future. In the event of inclement weather, school may be cancelled. School cancellation will be announced on your local radio station. Missed days due to inclement weather will be made up.

Grading
Grades are discussed at the end of each course so that the student is aware of progress. Unsatisfactory progress will be noted with the student as it occurs and before grades are posted. Upon completion of training, grades are verified and a grade report is furnished to the student. Students attending MTDI are graded on written exams and practical demonstrations. Numerical equivalents to letter grades are as follows:
A = 93 - 100% C = 73 - 76%
A-= 90 - 92% C-= 70 - 72%
B+ = 87 - 89% D+ = 67 - 69%
B = 83 - 86% D = 63 - 66%
B- = 80 - 82% D- = 60 -62%
C+ = 77 - 79% F = 00 - 59%

At the end of each course the student's grade point average is calculated. Students are required to achieve at least a 70% overall grade point average. Students who do not achieve the required academic minimum will not graduate.

Withdrawal Students who withdraw from this program must do so in writing. Withdrawals will not be accepted after two-thirds of the class time has elapsed. Students who simply stop attending or who never attend, but are registered will receive "F" grades in all classes and no refunds will be granted.

The following refund policy applies to tuition and course fees for all students:

100%: student withdraws before the end of the fourth day of classes; 75%: student withdraws before the end of the eighth day of classes; 50%: student withdraws before the end of the twelfth day of classes; 25%: student withdraws before the end of the sixteenth day of classes. After the sixteenth day of classes, no refunds will be given.

Students receiving financial aid (Pell, WIA) who withdraw from the program will receive reduced financial assistance as per regulations. Students should contact the College's Financial Aid Office (301-387-3083), or WIA office, prior to withdrawal to determine the financial impact of program withdrawal.

Graduation
Upon completion of the program, students will receive a congratulatory letter from the program director. Within two weeks of program completion students will receive their citations from MTDI. Credit students who complete the program are invited to participate in the annual graduation ceremony held in May at the College. Credit program completers will receive a letter from the Dean of Academic and Student Affairs informing them of the day and time of graduation. All credit students will complete the graduation application at the end of their program and indicate whether or not he/she intends to participate in May graduation ceremonies. There is no additional fee to credit students who wish to participate. Credit graduates will receive the loan of a cap and gown, a certificate, and will be able to attend the graduation reception. They may also invite their family and friends to attend graduation. Noncredit graduates do not attend credit graduation ceremonies.

Student Rights, Privileges, and Responsibilities
It is a student's right to receive the training for which he was enrolled. It is the student's privilege to be trained at the time and site that he expected. It is the student's responsibility to attend classes regularly, study so as to complete the course, and to respect the school's rules and regulations.

Student Conduct
It is the School's policy to maintain a professional environment at all times and to expect the students to conduct themselves in a manner above reproach in the classroom and in the training area. Students will be dismissed from training because of excessive unexcused absences or tardiness, improper conduct, use or possession of alcohol or drugs while in training, willful destruction of equipment or payments more than two months in arrears. Students will be issued a student handbook during orientation and are required to abide by the rules and regulations as stated. Garrett College's Code of Student Conduct (see Academic Policies) will apply to all students.

Tobacco Use Policy
Any and all tobacco use is prohibited throughout all classrooms, offices, restrooms, break room and faculty offices. Failure to comply with MTDI Tobacco Use Policy can result in disciplinary measures including suspension.

Re-admission and Appeal Process
Students may appeal their dismissal in writing. The program director may determine that because of extenuating circumstances a student can be re-admitted to the institution after sufficient time is allowed for the student to resolve the problems surrounding his/her unsatisfactory progress. The program director will determine at which segment a student will be re-admitted. The student will be placed on probation for that full segment and must complete that segment with a grade average of at least a 70% and complete 80% of the segment hours scheduled before financial aid awards will be made. If the student does not achieve these requirements after re-admission, he will be dismissed and financial aid will be terminated.

Grievance
Any student who has a concern should speak with the instructor. If unresolved, the student should contact the program director. Thereafter, if the issue remains unresolved, the student will follow the procedures in the Student Code of Conduct (see Academic Policies).
