PROGRAM
Garrett College will be offering a Learning Community of Juvenile Delinquency and Social Problems, comparing American and South African attitudes and responses to social problems with a particular emphasis on juvenile delinquency. We will also compare the social problems and legacies of racial inequities (civil rights in the US and apartheid in SA).

We will be working in cooperation with the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s law and social sciences faculty and students in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. We will also travel to Bhisho, the provincial seat for juvenile justice in South Africa and will be visiting nearby villages to study how traditional/tribal communities address social problems.

The study abroad will also include a day visit to the Kwantu Private Game Reserve to see the “Big 5” wildlife of South Africa.”
