Students who have achieved an ACT verbal score of 21 or an SAT critical reading score of 550 will be exempt from the Garrett College English placement indicator.  Students who have scored 21 on the ACT math subject test or 550 on the SAT will be exempt from math placement testing.  Official test scores must be on file in the Garrett College Office of Admissions.

All incoming students, however, must provide a writing sample to ensure appropriate enrollment in college writing courses, unless credit for English 101 already has been earned with a grade of “C” or better.

Students who wish to use a calculator during math placement are encouraged to bring one on the day of testing.

Please call the Office of Admissions at 301-387-3044 to discuss your evaluation and the need for placement testing or a writing sample.
