Basketball Preseason Skills Enhancement Program
Oct. 6 - Nov. 13
Monday & Thursday 6-8pm
Boys/ Girls Grades 6-12


The preseason skills enhancement program is a six - week basketball skill develpment, performace enhancement, and injury prevention program; it combines specific exercises for developing core strength and knee/ ankle stability. The program will also incorporate speed, agility, explosive and quickness training, as well as intense fundemental basketball skills and drills. If you are a pleayer that needs help making a team or wanting to start your season as a high level player, then this program is for you.

The preseason program will also include a six - week membership to the Community Aquatics and Recreation Complex (CARC) on the campus of Garrett College. Membership includes daily access to the CARC pool, fitness studio, and open gym times. Check out www.gccarc.com for more information.

Athletics Food Booth at GC Fair

LAKERNATION was represented at the fair booth by coaches, athletics staff, friends and family of the athletics program. The Garrett College Athletics Food Booth, in memory of the late Assistant Men's Basketball Coach David K. Martin, was a great sucess in fundraising for the athletic department. The Menu included Crab cakes, Chicken wings, Steakburgers, the very popular Amish Fry Pies, Bavarian Grilled Cheese, Cheesesteaks, and the almost famous Chicken Spiedie Sandwich.

GARRET COLLEGE ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
The Garrett College Athletics Hall of Fame honors former student athletes, teams and others(including coaches, trainers, staff, individuals or companies) whose sports achievement and character have reflected positively on the College and its Department of Athletics.

Criteria for Induction:

  • As a student, the alum must have participated in at least one season of athletics at Garrett College and have been in good academic and disciplinary standing
  • The athlete cannot be considered for at least five years after they participated
  • Teams that exhibited exceptional levels of success and were exemplary representatives of Garrett College may be nominated
  • An individual or company who has made special contribution(s) to the support, growth, popularity and/or community acceptance of the intercollegiate programming at Garrett College may be nominated
  • Self-nominations are acceptable
  • Nominations may be made in memory of an athlete


Supporting material may accompany Nomination Forms. Note that while statistics are important in considering the nominees, not having this will not deter submission of the application.

Lakers Chillin' 4 Charity


Before

The Garrett College athletic department recently participated in the Chillin' 4 Charity fundraiser, for the Kay Yow Foundation that raises funds for research, and raises awareness for breast cancer.

To participate in Chillin' 4 Charity you are called out by another athletic department, who passes the buck on to you. If you do not answer the challenge you pay $200 to the Kay Yow Foundation. The Lakers were called out by Brookdale CC, and former Laker athletic director Shawn Noël.

Just before the ice cold water was dumped, the Lakers called out a few other athletic departments to keep the ball rolling including Westmoreland CCC, Cecil College, and Potomac State College of WV.
