Eric
Hallenbeck, Head Coach
Eric Hallenbeck enters his fifth season as head coach of Garrett College’s baseball program. His four year record is 93-109-2. In 2008, the Lakers finished 22-25-1 but again were in the top 25 in team batting average hitting .333. Hallenbeck’s best year was in 2007 when he guided the Lakers to their first winning season since 2000 and tied the school record for wins with 31. They also were 9th in the nation in team batting average hitting .357. He has coached one Academic All-American, four first team all region XX players, three all district players, one first team MD Juco and a Rawlings Big Stick Award winner while with the Lakers.
Prior to Garrett, Hallenbeck was serving as an Associate Head Coach before being hired at Garrett and top assistant for seven years at Frostburg State University. During his tenure at Frostburg State, he helped guide the team to a 205-102-1 overall record while compiling a 54-19 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference record. As FSU’s recruiting coordinator the Bobcats won three AMCC Tournament Championships (1998, 1999, 2004), had 44 All-AMCC selections and four league Most Valuable Players.
A former catcher and designated hitter at Frostburg State from 1991-94, Hallenbeck started his coaching career in the summer of 1993 as an assistant for the Brunswick (MD) American Legion.
In 1994, he started his own legion program in Boonsboro, MD. Two years later, Hallenbeck joined the coaching staff at Frederick Community College as their pitching coach, where the team set a school record for wins with 29, finished 13th in the nation and posted a team earned run average of 3.50. In 1997, Hallenbeck returned to his alma mater to serve as an assistant.
For nine years, Hallenbeck was the catching instructor for the Ripken Baseball School. In addition to his coaching duties, Hallenbeck also serves as admission counselor and supervisor of baseball operations at the college.
In four years’ Hallenbeck has made major renovations to the field and press box. A new indoor batting facility and clubhouse was opened in January ’07. In the fall of 2006, Hallenbeck started a freshman team which plays a fall season in the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference. All freshman play in the WPCC league with the returning players playing scrimmage games in the fall. This spring a new batting tunnel and halo around home plate will be installed. “We will never be stagnant here at Garrett. The staff and I will continue to find ways on how to improve our program. We take a lot of pride in GC Baseball and want student-athletes who do the same.” “Garrett is not for everybody. I hear this a lot, “what’s there to do here?” My question to them is “what do you want to do? Go to class, study, work out and play baseball. If that’s not their answer they need to look elsewhere.”
Hallenbeck, a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association, received his bachelor’s degree in physical education with concentrations in coaching and health fitness from Frostburg State in May 1997.

He is also the proud father of two beautiful children, Madison Brooke (8) and Zachary George (5).

Dan Sidorowicz Head Freshman Coach
Dan Sidorowicz enters his 1st season as Head Freshman Coach
and assistant varsity coach. He will work with the infielders,
hitters and overall strength and conditioning for the Lakers
baseball team. He comes to GC after serving 4 years as the
pitching coach at Frostburg State. During his tenure at FSU,
the bobcats won two AMCC tournament championships (2006)
(2007) and earned two bids to the NCAA Tournament.
Dan is no stranger to Coach Hallenbeck. He played four years
at Frostburg while Hallenbeck was the assistant coach. As
a player, Sidorowicz posted a 14-11 overall record, tossing
six complete games and adding three saves. His 48 appearances
rank second all-time, his 14 wins are ninth and his 153.1
innings and 107 strikeouts are both tenth.
Dan earned a Bachelors of Science degree in health and physical
education in the summer of 2006 and masters in special education
in May 2008 from Frostburg State.
“I’m very pleased to have Dan joining our coaching
staff. He will pick up where Mark left off. Although his
experience is in pitching, Dan is a student of the game.
It will be a challenge for him in the beginning but knowing
him as a player and now as a coach he will be highly successful.
Dan is excited about getting this opportunity to broaden
his knowledge of the game and it won’t take him long
before he is comfortable. It wouldn’t surprise me that
in a year or two he’ll be ready to have his own successful
program. He has what it takes to become a quality coach.
He relates well with the players, is loyal, hard-working
and has a passion for the game. We are lucky to have him”,
says Coach Hallenbeck.
Dan will also be the assistant to the athletic director,
keeping stats updated on the NJCAA web site and serving as
the event manager for home basketball contests. He will also
be an adjunct professor, teaching weight training.
Sidorowicz resides in McHenry, MD.
