Dennis
Gibson - Head Coach
Coach Gibson organized and began
the first collegiate golf program in
1994 in response to local student athletes
that wanted to continue their careers
at the collegiate level in golf. That
first year, freshman Matt Hill made it
to the national tourney held at The Pines,
NC and with a sixth place overall finish
was selected as an NJCAA All American.
On three separate occasions the team
has managed to send a representative
to the national tourney. Coach
Gibson is a long time member of the Wisp
Resort and Golf Club and resides in McHenry. He
feels that golf could contend for a national
championship at the college and has worked
to include the program in a nearby fall
collegiate program, the Western Pennsylvania
Collegiate Conference. “Golf
is a great lifetime sport and it is very
strong in the local high schools. Since
NJCAA golf is a spring sport, and the
MD teams only play in the spring, putting
our team in the WPCC has been a great
opportunity to work with our players
throughout the year. Furthermore,
I am not a teacher of golf at the higher
levels, and the local pros, Brian Heslop
and Matt Hill of the Wisp, as well as
Pat Warren at the Oakland Golf Club have
been great in working with our players
throughout the fall and spring. This
is a huge asset to our team, they are
all well respected teachers of the game.”
