Garrett won a hard fought contest at the CARC Fieldhouse over the visiting  Montgomery Raptors 73 – 59.  6’6 Soph center Frank Holloway, coming off the bench, scored 20 points and hit some big shots in the paint in the second half to hold off a rally by the Raptors after cutting the Laker lead to 9.  5’10 freshman point guard Corey Groom hit 9 of 11 free throws in the second half, finishing with 16 points, 9 rebounds and three assists.

“Corey led us in rebounding on hustle and toughness.” Noted coach Gibson, “the rest of our team should take note.  But if we do not finish our plays and continue to be a poor free throw shooting team, we will struggle in D-2, especially on the road” .  “ Our bench has been key for us, and even though we do not get scoring sometimes, we do get great hustle and team play when we put our back up guys in, and we have always worked to develop that aspect.”  Garrett’s record improve to 8 – 2 on the season as finals week takes precedence over practice and games.  The Lakers will head to CSMD and Howard, two top D-2 opponents Friday and Saturday.
