Frederick CC

The Lakers went on the road for their first MD JUCO game of the year and played well for 20 minutes at Frederick CC.  In the second half the Lakers could not generate consistent offense losing 85 – 66 despite 28 points from Frank Holloway.  Corey Groom was the only other Laker to reach double figures with 14 points and added 4 assists.  The season record drops to 4 – 2 with the loss.

Butler County CC

The Lakers won easily on the road at Butler County CC, PA last night 96 – 58 to up the record to 4 – 1.   6’6 frosh  DeAndre Davis recorded his first double double of his career with 15 points and 10 boards.

Frank Holloway, 6’6 soph, led all scorers with 23 points.  6’ freshman guard Chris Scarlett recorded 5 assists.  6’4 soph guard DJ Ritchie netted 13 points, four for four from three point range. 6’8 soph, Shannon McCready added 8 points to go with 4 assists.

McDonald's Tip Off Tourney


Garrett College Lakers 2-0 easily defeated Lord Fairfax (0-1)  in the opening round of the McDonald’s Tourney 111 – 39.  6’6 Soph center Frank Holloway scored a career high 42 points to lead the way.   6’4 wing soph Yannick Zanfack added 16 points. 


In the championship, Garrett 2-1, fell behind 8-0 to high paced Potomac State 2-1, but rallied to take a 43- 40 half time lead.  Chris Scarlett, 6’ point guard frosh, hit for 9 points in the first half coming off the bench to help lead the attack.  In the second half, the Lakers defensive game remained in the locker room as they lost their composure as a team giving up 59 second half points losing 99 – 73.  “ This was a bad loss for us at home, but I think it should give some guys a reality check and work on their weaknesses,”  coach Gibson noted.  “We are a team that needs to control the tempo and work to move better on offense.  We are not overpowering athletically, but the potential to be very good is evident.”   Frank Holloway scored 15 points with 11 boards.  DJ Ritchie, 6’4 sophomore wing added 17 points with three treys.


CCAC Boyce

Garrett Laker men’s basketball team opened the 2013 campaign with an easy 106-42 home win over visiting CCAC Boyce Campus, Pittsburgh, PA Tuesday evening. 

Sophs DJ Ritchie, Southern Garrett,  and Shannon McCready led the way with 15 points each.  Frank Holloway recorded his first double/double of the year scoring 14 points and hauling in a team high 14 rebounds.  Freshman point guard Corey Groom came up with 7 assists and 4 steals. 

“It was a good start for us, we played more like a team than we have with recent scrimmages and kept our pace and intensity.  We will continue to grow and improve as a team which is always our goal.”
