Lakers Remain Undefeated

Coming off a six day Thanksgiving break without a game, the Garrett College Men's Basketball team upped their season record to 8 -0, defeating long time rival D-1 Allegany College 74- 62.  Garrett’s 6’7" sophomore, DeAndre Davis scored 20 points and added 10 boards to lead the team.  6’6, power forward, sophomore, Drazen Frankovitch had one of his best games of the season adding a strong inside presence with 14 points and 8 rebounds – 4 on the offensive glass.  6’4 freshman, Nemo Trexler scored 17 and hit the only two threes for the night for the Lakers, those coming early in the first half.   6’3 freshman, guard, Sebastien Jean Charles had his first start at the point, turning in a solid performance with 4 points, 2 blocks and 1 assist.

Garrett built a 21 point lead with 5 minutes to play, but Allegany’s press forced the Lakers into a season high 17 turnovers and the Trojans cut the Laker's lead to 12 with 2 minutes remaining.   Chris Scarlett, 6’ sophomore guard, despite shooting poorly, was solid for the Lakers with his ball control and toughness and Garrett was able to maintain their lead for the win in the final minutes.

“I was concerned with the long break and the fact the AC had played just this weekend in a good tournament and they would have a much better offensive rhythm," noted Coach Gibson.  "Nemo hitting the opening threes really took the pressure off of us mentally, and we were able to build a lead.  DeAndre and Drazen were very solid inside against the bigger Allegany post players, as they should be as sophomores, but I underestimated Allegany’s strength, quickness, and size, despite their short bench with injuries, they are a team that can be really good.  This was a great win for our team and matches our best start at 8 – 0.”

The Lakers are back in action on Saturday, December 6'th at Anne Arundel.
