Lakers Rise to #2 in MDJUCO

The Lakers defeated MDJUCO’s 2nd ranked team, CCBC Dundalk this past Saturday night by a final score of 61-57. The Lakers were led by Sophomore, Chris Scarlett, who hit four threes to lead the team with 16 points. Sophomore, DeAndre Davis and Freshman, Nemo Trexler each turned in 13 points and 8 rebounds. “This is a huge win for us, especially after giving up the last two games like we have.  Dundalk has beaten many of the top teams in our region and it was really a must win for us”, noted Coach Gibson.  The Lakers led by 20 at halftime only allowing 14 points to the Lions, but Dundalk came roaring back, closing the gap to two. Trexler missed an inside power move with 9 seconds remaining, but made a tremendous effort to get his own rebound and was fouled on the resulting put back attempt.  He calmly sank two free throws to give the Lakers a 4 point cushion. “We have nothing but really good teams remaining on our schedule. Cecil, Howard and Hagerstown, our remaining league games are all very talented.  Then we have NOVA and Potomac State after the MD JUCO tournament, and they are two of the top teams in Region XX.  On the men’s side, anyone in our league and Region can beat you so you cannot have an off night”, said Coach Gibson as a reminder to his team.

With the win the Lakers retake 2nd place in the MDJUCO, and improve their record to 16-5 overall, 3-1 in NJCAA Region XX, and 8-3 in the MDJUCO. The Lakers are back in action on Wednesday, January 28’th at home to take on Cecil College. Game time is 7pm.
