The Lady Lakers return five players for the 2015-2016 season. “These girls know our goals and expectations for next season and will provide strong leadership and much needed guidance for our 2015 recruiting class” said Coach Bogie.

Skaro signs with Seawolves

Anamaria Skaro will continue her basketball career at Stony Brook University. The 5’11” Forward from Split, Croatia and recently named NJCAA Second Team All – American has signed a full scholarship to play Division I basketball for the Seawolves.  The team captain led the Lady Lakers averaging a double -double for two seasons; during the 2014-2015 season she averaged 16.6 points per game and 11.6 rebounds per game.  “Anamaria Skaro is a true example of what you can achieve if you have a strong work ethic and a positive attitude” Coach Bogie said. “She had very little interest from colleges coming out of high school. Upon her arrival to Garrett College she did not have the skill to be a dominant post player or the ball handling ability to play as a guard but we worked very hard to develop her talent for both positions in order to highlight her as the strong and versatile player that she is today.” Coach Bogie said.

“Coach Bogie and I sat down and discussed my options on a daily basis.” Anamaria said. “He has always believed in me and guided me to make the best possible decisions. I know that Coach Bogie will always be there for me and I am grateful that he really pushed me hard to become the player that I am today."

Anamaria is one of the most decorated players in Garrett College Women’s Basketball history to sign a Division I scholarship. “She had some very good colleges interested in her and after careful consideration, she felt that Stony Brook was not only the best fit for her athletically but it also has a very strong academic reputation.” Coach Bogie said.

“It has always been a dream of mine to play collegiate basketball at the highest level in America.” Anamaria said. “I am extremely grateful that Coach McCombs has given me the opportunity to make this dream come true and I know that she will continue to push me to become the best player that I can be.”

Stony Brook University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Caroline McCombs had this to say about Anamaria: “We are extremely excited for Anamaria to join our Seawolves Basketball Family. She is a very versatile player on the floor and that will allow her the opportunity to play multiple positions. Her ability to handle the ball, shoot the three, rebound and post up will help us to continue to build a championship program.” Coach McCombs also stated that “Anamaria is a focused student-athlete that competes in the classroom. We look forward to having her join our first recruiting class at Stony Brook.”
