The Summit 2008 Symposium, FREE, 1 Co-Curricular Credit
The Summit is an annual, symposium-style meeting of students and staff from Alldredge Academy, Backbone Mountain Youth Center (DJS), and Garrett. Each Summit has a theme and a topic for round-table discussion. Last year, our theme was "Engaging the Minds and Spirits of Young People." This year's theme is "The Remedy: Curing Social Problems that Affect Youth." The Summit opens with ice-breaker, team-building initiatives involving all attendees, followed by the round-table presentations and discussions. We share lunch together, family-style, so that conversations continue informally amongst participants. After lunch, Alldredge drummers perform several pieces and then invite Summit attendees to participate in the drumming. The event lasts about 6 hours.
