GC Spring Transfer Trips Scheduled

Garrett College students are being invited to “Spring into Transfer” by taking part in a program of scheduled trips to various four-year colleges and universities that have been among the top choices for previous GC graduates. The GC Advising and Academic Success Center (AASC) has coordinated these trips, which are open to students who have earned a minimum of 24 college-level credits and have a 2.0 GPA or higher.

The first such trip was made last week to Bucknell University for those seriously interested in pursuing the Bucknell Community College Scholarship Program. Four students took advantage of this opportunity.

Other schools to be visited in the coming weeks include West Virginia University on February 28, Allegany College of Maryland for pre-transfer allied health majors on March 28, Fairmont State University on April 11, and Frostburg State University on April 25.

Judy Carbone, Director of the AASC talked about the multiple purposes for offering the transfer trip program. “We want to stress the need for planning early and to give students first-hand experience in visiting some of the most popular colleges that Garrett College students transfer to. Having a chance to see the look and the feel of a college is key to ensuring a good fit upon transfer,” Carbone said.

AASC advisor Ashley Ruby has coordinated all the trips on the spring schedule with the colleges and universities which will be visited. “The transfer coordinators at the four-year institutions are very excited about hosting Garrett College students. They are rolling out the red carpet and providing tours, lunch, and meetings with faculty from programs that our students have an interest in,” she said.
