Annual Chinese New Year Event Benefits College

Chinese New Year is celebrated in Garrett County annually with a fund-raising dinner hosted by Dr. Qing Yuan, Garrett College (GC) Director of Business
, Information Technology, and Engineering,Debi Facciolli, GC adjunct professor, and Vianne Bell, a member of the GC Board of Trustees.

This year’s event, celebrating the Year of the Horse, raised funds for the Garrett College Foundation’s Garrett College Athletics Fund. This was the fourth annual Chinese New Year event to support different programs at Garrett College through the Foundation.

In the past three years, the event raised funds for the Garrett College Robotics Team, Garrett College Veterans, as well as Garrett College Athletics. To date the Chinese New Year events have raised approximately $8,000 for the GC Foundation.

Each year, between 50 and 60 attendees dine on authentic Chinese Food prepared by Dr. Yuan, Facciolli, and Bell. All three women have been long-time supporters of Garrett College’s mission, according to GC Foundation Executive Director Cherie Krug.

“This annual fund-raiser is always a delightful event that brings together college supporters in a social setting for the purpose of providing assistance to our students and to further the mission of Garrett College. We are fortunate to have such dedicated people involved in helping us achieve our goals,” Krug said.
