Crellin Elementary School Contributes to "I Can Swim!"

To show appreciation for the “I Can Swim!” program” the Crellin Elementary School community recently sponsored a fund-raiser at the Dairy Queen in Oakland to benefit the water safety program. The event was coordinated by Crellin Elementary School principal Dana McCauley along with teachers and staff members.

The “I Can Swim!” program, which has been offered at the Garrett College Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex (CARC) since 2011, provides swimming and water safety classes for all Garrett County kindergarten and sixth grade students at no charge to the families. The program is supported in part by donations from the community which are held in a fund managed by the Garrett College Foundation (GCF).

Cherie Krug, Executive Director of the GCF, was on hand for the Dairy Queen fundraiser and expressed her appreciation for this effort. “We extend a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to Crellin Elementary and its teachers and staff for organizing the “I Can Swim!” Dairy Queen fundraiser. The restaurant was full and it was a perfect way for parents and children to give back to the program. We are looking forward to working with Crellin in the future,” she said.

McCauley said that the Crellin Elementary School community was glad to sponsor this event. “We really enjoyed the evening and thank Cherie so much for all that she and the Foundation and the college do,” she said.
