Mountain Maryland Tech Network Kick-Off April 12

A new regional organization has been formed to support and engage technology professionals in Western Maryland. The Mountain Maryland Tech Network (MMTN) is the result of collaboration between the four institutions of higher learning in Western Maryland - Garrett College’s Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation/Garrett Information Enterprise Center - GIEC, Frostburg State University, Allegany College of Maryland’s Western Maryland IT Center of Excellence and Hagerstown Community College’s Technical Innovation Center.

The free kick-off event, scheduled for April 12, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Mezzo’s in downtown Cumberland is intended to attract regional tech professionals – in either large or small organizations, profit or non-profit enterprises – to meet likeminded professionals and learn more about MMTN and the schedule of events for the year. The event is funded, in part, by Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) and other technology ecosystem support entities. The event will include appetizers and a cash bar with the hopes of drawing and engaging the regional tech community in networking and discussion.

“The tech community is an important and vibrant part of western Maryland and we felt there was a need to better engage members of this community. With members spread throughout the area, and many engaged via single-office or home-office locations, we think MMTN will be a great way to build awareness and collaboration amongst those engaged in tech in our communities. The plan is to hold various events/workshops/meet-ups at various locations in the three counties. The result will be a stronger collective impact and also enhanced business development and growth prospects,” stated Mike Tumbarello, Director of the Garrett College Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation and one of the founding members of MMTN.
