Certified Apartment/Building Maintenance Technician Training Slated in Accident

Garrett College Continuing Education and Workforce Development will be starting home repair and maintenance training at the Career Technology Training Center (CTTC) located Accident. The first segment of training begins in April with CFC-EPA, which prepares individuals to work with refrigerants. The second segment of the program, Certified Apartment/Building Maintenance Technician (CAMT), will immediately follow.

The first half of the program, CFC-EPA section, is designed to teach students the skills and explain EPA requirements needed to recover CFCs. Topics include: theory of refrigeration, environmental issues, different types of refrigerants, safe handling of equipment using refrigerants, recovery and shipping requirements. This is a pre-requisite for the CAMT program.

The Certified Apartment/Building Maintenance Technician (CAMT) class is designed to provide an overview of the apartment and building maintenance profession and prepare students for an entry level position in the industry. Homeowners interested in DIY repairs will find a wide array of topics presented. Topics include: basic maintenance and repair of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems; maintenance, repair and installation of appliances; proper maintenance activities to keep the interior and exterior of a building in excellent condition.

Classes provide plenty of hands-on experiences to enhance lectures, discussion and computer based learning.
