Swim-a-thon Slated as Fundraiser for I Can Swim Program

A fund-raiser for the Joan and Bill Crawford “I Can Swim!” program is planned for Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Garrett College Community Aquatic & Recreation Complex (CARC). Billed as the “I Can Swim-a-thon,” this event is open to everyone and all participants are asked to raise at least $25 for the “I Can Swim Program!” which provides free swimming and water safety classes to all kindergarten-age children in Garrett County.

The event is structured to accommodate various levels of swimming ability. In the competition pool will be a timed lap swim of either a 30-mile or 70-mile Triathlon with prizes awarded for fastest swim. The warm water pool will be used for non-lap swimmers participating in the event and will include Water Aerobics sessions and group lessons.

There will be an adequate number of lifeguards on duty. Non-CARC members are invited to participate in this fund-raising event. A prize will be awarded to the highest money raiser. Anyone who raises over $100 will be eligible for a special gift!

Sponsors for the “I Can Swim-a-thon” include Garrett College, The CARC, Sincell Publishing Co., Inc., The Manta Ray Swim Team, and Rudy’s Mountaintop Outfitters. For more information or to register persons may visit www.icanswimprogram.org.
