Collins Named to Board of Trustees at Garrett College

Garrett College has recently announced that Madeleine Collins has been appointed as a member of the Board of Trustees. A 40-year resident of Garrett County whose father was originally from the area, she was born and raised primarily outside the country, in Europe and Latin America.

Having received her Bachelor of Science degree from the College of William & Mary Collins settled in Garrett County in the early 1970’s, working alongside her husband at the Wisp ski area. They started their own small business several years later and gradually developed other businesses, culminating in the formation of McHenry Plaza.

In addition to being actively engaged in her family business, Collins has taught prepared childbirth classes through Garrett County Health Department, swimming classes at Wisp, and small business classes through Garrett College Continuing Education.

Collins has served as member and president of the Board of Trustees of the Ruth Enlow Library of Garrett County and as member and president of the Garrett County Board of Education. She is presently on the board of the Youghiogheny Watershed Association and Garrett Lakes Art Festival, where she chairs the education committee.

In addition to her business and civic activities, Collins has also had an active artistic career working in ceramics/pottery, watercolors, and most recently, garden and landscape design. She and her husband, George, have three children, one living in Garrett County and two in California, as well as two grandchildren.
