GC Security Coordinator Selected County Liaison for Crime Prevention Association

Garrett College Coordinator of Security Shelley Menear has been selected to serve as the Garrett County Area Representative for the Maryland Crime Prevention Association, Inc. (MCPA). The mission of this professional association is to facilitate the promotion and advancement of crime prevention information and activities in the state of Maryland.

Members of MCPA include police, sheriff, correctional personnel, security professionals, business people and community leaders, as well as interested citizens and crime prevention supporters from across the state. Menear will play a significant role in Western Maryland. “I am now the point of contact for our county to assist in planning trainings here, and to inform the association of the crime prevention concerns that are being voiced in Garrett County,” Menear explained.

To accomplish her goals, Menear will reach out to the community for input and information. “I am asking people in the community to help spread the word to individuals, businesses, and community organizations that would be interested in sharing concerns and/or receiving training provided by MCPA. I am building a network so people can contact me on any of these issues and forward my information to others,” she said.

Menear was recruited for this position by Bruce A. Lohr, Crime Prevention Specialist, for the Maryland Community Crime Prevention Institute, and a vice president of the Maryland Crime Prevention Association (MCPA). Lohr had previously worked with Menear to set up MCPA trainings in this area. When the decision was made to create a new point of contact in Garrett County, he asked Menear if she would be willing to assume this post, noting that it would be an honor to have her serve in the capacity. Menear’s new post is voluntary as are all positions in the MCPA. More information on the Maryland Crime Prevention Association is available online at www.mdcrimeprevention.org.
