GC Hosting Flea Market to Support Students in Need Group

The community is invited to attend the Second Annual SING (Students In Need Group) Flea Market at Garrett College this Saturday, June 1, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the GC Special Events Center on the McHenry campus. Over 60 vendor tables will display a wide array of items for sale, according to Ann Wellham, a member of the Flea Market planning committee and the Dean of Marketing and Enrollment.

“We are very pleased with the variety of things that will be available to shoppers including antique European cut glass, household goods, handmade one-of-a kind jewelry, craft items, and custom made gift baskets. One vendor will have a table set up for candle-making,” Wellham said.

Representatives for several brand name products will be among the vendors. Shoppers will be able to find Miche purses with the interchangeable outside shell; lunch totes, bags, and purses by Thirty One which can be personalized with embroidery; Cookie Lee jewelry; Paparazzi Jewelry; and Pink Zebra home fragrance items.

Shoppers will also have the opportunity to support a number of community non-profit groups who will be raising money through the flea market to support their causes. Among them will be the American Association of University Women selling vintage engraved Czechoslovakian glasses and the Oakland Women’s Civic Club, selling the original 1914 cookbook from Civic Club along with raffle tickets for a trip to Ocean City and tickets for a quilt.

Garrett College will offer a range of used electronic equipment and furniture at bargain prices, Wellham also noted.

“With all the shopping opportunities and the concessions available for refreshments, we think this will be a wonder community event. The vendor registration fees will all go the Garrett College Students In Need Group (SING) which provides support to our students at times of significant need. We do still have a few vendor spaces available and encourage anyone who might be interested in reserving one to call. People can even rent a table the day of the market if there are any spaces still available,” Wellham concluded.
