GC Slates Summer Camps for Kids


The Great Garrett Adventure Camps (GGAC) will again provide a series of weekly camps for young children at the Garrett College Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex (CARC) on the McHenry campus. All camps will run Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. and are open to children who have completed any grade, kindergarten through 6th.


Maney Gale, program director for the CARC, explained that that camp experiences are designed to provide education, physical activity, and communication skills, adding that breakfast and lunch will be provided free of charge each day through the Summer Youth Meal Program. “Each camp session will be staffed by one director and 3 to 4 counselors, all of whom meet the standards of the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. GGAC is a State of Maryland Licensed Youth Day Camp. ” she said.

The following camp sessions will be offered with a free group fitness class available for each completed camp registration.

June 17 - June 21 - Treasure Hunters will feature scavenger hunts, geocaching, and a camp mystery. June 24 - June 28 - Imagination Station will focus on the works of authors like Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, Mother Goose, and Shel Silverstein.

July 8 - July 12 - To Infinity and Beyond will explore the solar system and geology.

July 15 - July 19 - Around the World in 5 Days will present a international cultures, activities, food.

July 22 - July 26 - MACH 1 (Multi-Adventure Challenge) I will offer adventure experiences.

Aug. 5 – Aug. 9 - All About Animals Camp will feature information on a wide variety of animals.

Aug. 12 – Aug. 16 - MACH 1 (Multi-Adventure Challenge) II will again focus on adventures.
