Foundation Announces Family Endowment of Leah Huber Scholarship

The Garrett College Foundation has announced the endowment of the Leah Welling Huber Memorial Scholarship. Her parents Dwayne and Charlotte Sue Driscoll Welling of Addison, Pa. donated the funds for this scholarship.

This endowment will provide scholarships to students meeting academic and financial guidelines and pursuing studies at GC in fields related to medicine, nutrition, education, or the arts. The scholarship may be used to cover tuition, fees, textbooks, and supplies, according to a statement from the Foundation office.

Born in Connellsville, Pa., and a resident of Mill Run, Leah Welling Huber was the wife of Kent Huber, the mother of Seth and Blake Huber, and the sister of Debbie Welling Barna, David Keith Welling, Claudia Lynn Welling, and Rebekah Welling Hann.

Mrs. Huber was employed by the Garrett County Board of Education as the secretary of Friendsville Elementary School for 17 years. While employed at Friendsville Elementary, she participated in musical productions, fund-raisers and community events. She was also active in Mercy Chapel, Mill Run, often providing musical selections by voice or instrument.

“We are honored to offer this scholarship in memory of Leah and extend our thanks to the family for making this education fund available,” said Cherie Krug, Executive Director of the Garrett College Foundation.
