Students Complete Certified Nursing Assistant Training

Now looking forward to new careers in health care, eight students recently successfully completed their training to become Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) through the Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) division of Garrett College (GC).

Karen Neel led over 117 hours of classroom instruction at the GC Career Technology Training Center (CTTC) in Accident and clinical experiences required to complete the program, which is approved through the Maryland Board of Nursing.  “This was a wonderful group of fun-loving, caring students.  They helped one another practice skills and showed compassion for each other as well as the residents in their care,” she said.

Sue Fowler, CEWD Program Director, also commented on the outstanding performance of these students.  “This was the first group of students that called me for permission to use the lab for additional practice.  And they did it on several occasions. That great attitude should take them far,” she said.

The next Garrett College CNA training class is scheduled to begin in September and information on course content, registration, costs, and financial assistance, and scheduling a pre-test is available by contacting Fowler at 301-387-3087 or emailing her at This email address is being protected from spambots.
