New GC Foundation Committee Formed to Engage Employees

The Garrett College Foundation, which receives and administers funds to support scholarships and program initiatives, has established a new committee to help expand the scope of the Foundation’s work. The recently formed Faculty and Staff Engagement Committee will spearhead the Garrett College Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign slated to kickoff this fall.

Members of the new committee include adjunct faculty member Judie Best, Human Resources Director Linda Fike, admissions counselor Michelle Holler, Director of the Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex Steve Putnam, Director of Financial Aid Cissy VanSickle, and adjunct faculty member Lori Youse.

“The Foundation Board is very grateful to the staff and faculty who are volunteering to work in this capacity on behalf of Garrett College. They will help us launch this inaugural campaign and encourage others to participate in this philanthropic effort by highlighting specific funds to which they would like to make their gifts. Among the options will be the Garrett College Employee Scholarship fund, which will benefit Garrett County residents who are enrolled as full- or part-time students in either a career or academic track, with preference given to students having a financial need,” said Cherie Krug, executive director of the Foundation.

Other funds for employee gifts will include: the Garrett Pride Annual Opportunity Grant Fund, which will make annual awards through an RFP (Request for Proposals) process; the Students in Need Group (S.I.N.G.) fund; and the recently established Michael D. Kilgus Scholarship for Excellence. They can also designate their gifts to any of the Foundation funds or scholarships. All employees will have the opportunity provided of payroll deduction.

The kickoff event for the Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign will be held at an employee pig roast dinner at Aggravatin’ Acres, hosted at the home of committee member Cissy VanSickle. “This campaign will underscore the generosity of the faculty, staff, and administration here at Garrett College.   Their gifts will help to support, nurture and grow important programs and initiatives but, more importantly, will help the students which they serve realize their dreams of a higher education,” Krug said.
