Foundation - General Giving Opportunities
Letter of Invitation
Dear Community Member,
Garrett College is celebrating its 35th year of service
to the people of Garrett County. During its first 35
years, the college has made significant contributions to
the overall quality of life in our community. It has
extended educational opportunity to citizens of every age
and interest. It has been, and continues to be, a partner
and leader in economic development initiatives, enhancing
the lives of all of us. The college campus is a community
center open to the entire community.
College graduates, on average, make up to one million dollars
more over their lifetimes than those who do not graduate
from college. In today’s society, higher education
is more important than ever. Yet the cost of higher education
continues to rise and this keeps many very bright people
from attending college. Although Garrett College is
tax-assisted, students pay tuition and additional financial
support is needed. The quality of education Garrett
College provides must be maintained. Just the cost
of keeping current with technology strains our institutional
budget.
Garrett College students and graduates succeed. Those
who transfer to four-year institutions of higher education
have a history of exceptionally strong academic performance. Five
recent graduates received Jack Kent Cook Scholarships to
attend Bucknell University. Our graduates obtain employment,
local and otherwise. Employers of our graduates are
highly satisfied with their preparation. Now, after
35 years, many of our graduates are established in their
careers and hold prominent positions in our community and
elsewhere.
The financial support you provide will help the college,
our students, and, in turn, the region as a whole. We want
to keep our education affordable for all. We ask you
to consider a charitable contribution. All levels of
financial support are welcome. Garrett College welcomes
gifts from individuals and businesses. You will receive
public recognition for your gift.
In addition to the need for scholarships, the college is
currently undertaking several efforts to increase our level
of service to our students and community. For our students
we offer two residence halls.
This will bring more students to the campus and provide a
well rounded educational and social experience for those
attending classes. For the community, the college has partnered
with county government and local private enterprise and is
in the early stages of building a Community Athletic and
Recreation Center. This facility will be open to all residents
of Garrett County and be used not only by the college, but
by local high schools and other organizations. Your help
can make this ambitious undertaking a reality for everyone
in the area.
The Garrett College Foundation was established to support
and promote Garrett College. It is a 501(C)(3) non-profit
charitable organization [incorporated in the State of Maryland]
under the United States Internal Revenue Code. All
gifts are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law. The
Garrett College Foundation is instrumental in the life of
the college and its students. It spearheads many efforts
to secure matching funds from the State of Maryland. These
efforts will ultimately result in substantial endowments
for our students as well as general financial support for
the college.
We hope you will help Garrett College and our students
with a gift to the Garrett College Foundation.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Paul R. Dauphinais
