Foundation - Mission Statement
The Garrett College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit
charitable organization under the United States Internal Revenue
Code and is incorporated in the State of Maryland.
The
single purpose of the Garrett College Foundation is to support and
promote the mission of Garrett College. As
Garrett Countys only institution of higher education, the College
is a beacon of opportunity for rural, native Garrett Countians. As
a two-year public college, Garrett also has a mission to provide
community service. The College tries to play a supporting role,
listening and responding to community needs whether for cultural,
social, or economic development.
To meet
its educational mission, the College must be many things to many
people. Consequently, it offers a broad array of courses and programs,
credit and non-credit, stretching its resources as far as it can for
the benefit of Garrett Countians. The County
and State provide funds for a basic education, but in todays world
the basics are not enough. Garrett Countians should be able to
compete on an equal footing with people from communities anywhere.
The
Garrett College Foundation believes in a better, brighter future for
our students and our community. The price of
excellence is more than a rural community with a limited tax base can
be expected to support from public funding. The mission of the Foundation
is to provide the resources needed to achieve excellence. We
believe Garrett County owes itself and its children nothing less.
