GARRETT COLLEGE FOUNDATION TAKES
ON A NEW FACE
Recently, the Board of Directors of the Garrett College
Foundation, a 501-c-(3) organization met and began searching
for a way to enhance giving opportunities and promote the
Foundation Mission Statement; from that single meeting evolved
a concept for a more innovative Foundation organization and
leadership.
Within months of that first meeting changes began to occur
rapidly under the direction of the newly acquired Foundation
Executive Director, Bob Beach.
Mr. Beach assumed the role in October 2005 and has lead
the Foundation through its current reorganization, creating
a larger Foundation Board with five officers, five directors
and eleven at-large members; affording the opportunity for
greater community participation through the larger Board
structure.
Six months later the process has now come to fruition,
with the reappointment of key individuals, such as Phil Rodeheaver
as the Finance Chairperson, Ann Smith as Scholarship Chairperson,
and Carissa Rodeheaver as the Chairperson for Membership.
Among the notable additions to the Foundation is the appointment
of Dr. Duane Cummins as Chairperson of Development.
Together with new faces and recent changes, the Foundation
intends to take a spirited approach to fundraising opportunities.
During the most recent Foundation Board meeting, the Board
accepted and approved the six month strategic plan as proposed
by the Executive Director.
In addition to fundraising activities, the Garrett College
Foundation awards competitive merit and need-based scholarships
to individuals to pursue higher education at Garrett College.
The Foundation awards scholarships valued in excess of $50,000.00
to approximately seventy individuals each academic year at
Garrett College.
The Foundation has been met with financial support to both
endowed funds and for scholarships through generous individuals
and corporate donations, allowing the continuance of the
Innovative Partnership in Technology Program, along with
other significant programs at Garrett College. All donations
are matched by the State of Maryland and have garnered the
continued support of the Carl DelSignore Foundation, Inc.,
First United Band & Trust, Susquehanna Bank, Mettiki
Coal, LLC, and Farmers and Merchants Bank & Trust.
The Garrett College Foundation Office is located in the
Continuing Education Building on the main campus of Garrett
College in McHenry. The telephone number of the Garrett College
Foundation is 301-387-3100 or via email at bob.beach@garrettcollege.edu.
