Information regarding the Conduct - Rules and Regulations for Computer Use and File Sharing can be found in the Student Code of Conduct Article III Section B, Numbers 1 and 2.

The Department of Education has included information in its Federal Student Aid Handbook about the civil and criminal penalties for violation of federal copyright laws.

Garrett College Network Login Setup

Login information is generated and mailed to the student's address. Once the student has their information, they can setup their account using one of the two following methods:


  • Login to a Student Computer (Computer Lab or Library) with supplied Garrett College temporary username and password.
  • You will be prompted to set a new password.
  • Enroll into SSPM when prompted, to setup your security questions.

  • You will be prompted to set a new password and answer security questions.

What to do if you forget your password?

If you forget your password, you can reset it by using the Self-Service Password Manager (SSPM) at
  • Click Reset your Password.
  • Enter your username.
  • Answer the questions.
  • Submit new password.

Password Practices


Choosing Passwords

  • DO NOT use password that are based on personal information.
  • DO use a combo of words, numbers, special characters, and both upper and lower case letters.
  • DO develop a mnemonic for remembering complex passwords. (Example - From the Doors' Soft Parade - "All our lives we sweat and save, building for a shallow grave" - a0lws@sb4@sg)
  • DO NOT use your username as your password.
  • DO NOT use words that can be found in the dictionary (English or foreign language).
  • DO NOT use keyboard combinations, such as "querty" or "asdzxc".

Protecting Passwords

  • DO change your password regularly.
  • DO choose passwords that you will remember so you DO NOT have to write them down.
  • DO use different passwords on different systems.
  • DO NOT give your passwords to anyone.
  • DO NOT write your password down and leave it on your desk, next to your PC, under your keyboard, or post-it on your monitor.
  • DO NOT store your passwords on your cell phone or smart phone.
  • Watch for attackers trying to trick you to reveal passwords (through phone calls or e-mails).
  • Watch for someone looking over your shoulder while you are typing your password.
  • DO NOT allow systems to "remember" your passwords.
  • DO always log off when finished using a computer.

Student Mobile Device E-mail Setup

Following these instructions allows you to connect to your email account through your mobile device:
  • Click the following URL to set a random generated password for your email account. This password is only used for your mobile device.You must continue to use your Garrett College supplied username and password to access Garrett College services (Google Mail, SAS, Print Management, etc.). Make note of this random password as you will need it in a later step.
  • Login to the Student e-mail system with a web browser as you normally do.
  • Go to Settings in the top right corner.
  • Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
  • Make sure POP is disabled.
  • Enable IMAP.
  • Click Save Changes button at the bottom.
  • Follow the instructions for your supported client:
    • iPhone Users
      • Open Settings.
      • Tap Mail, Contact, Calendars.
      • Tap Gmail.
      • Enter your account information:
        • Be sure to use your full Garrett College e-mail address, including ''.
        • Use the Random Password you generated in Step 1.
      • Tap Next.
      • Tap Save.
    • Android Users
      • Press Home, then open the E-mail application.
      • On the 'Your accounts' page, select Next to get started with setup.
      • Enter your full Garrett College e-mail address, including ''.
      • Use the Random Password you generated in Step 1.
      • Select Next.
      • On the next screen, you can give the account a nickname and choose the name to display on your outgoing messages. Tap Done.

Blackboard is the Learning Management System, or LMS, used by Garrett College. You will use Blackboard(Bb) in many of your courses, including:
  • Online (100% online)
  • Hybrid (50% online/50% on-campus)
  • Web-enhanced (100% on-campus)

Printing On Campus


Students are allocated printing funds from the College at the beginning of each of the fall and spring semesters. Students are required to pay for printing that exceeds their allocated printing funds.

You can log in to the PaperCut Print Management system, where you can check your balance, redeem print cards, review print history, and see the environmental impact.

Student Multimedia Request

If there is not a work order requesting equipment at the specified time, equipment will not be provided.
·To check out equipment, a student must:
  • Get written permission from their professor. An e-mail from the professor with the student's name, equipment needed, along with the date and time (including the ending time) of the request.
  • If the student is picking up the equipment, they must show a valid ID before the equipment is released.
  • Student must provide any needed media (miniDV tapes, CDs, DVDs, etc) and the media must be approved before use.

Configure GCWireless Wireless on Windows XP Computer

  • From the Start button, select Control Panel.
  • Select Network Connections.
  • Right click on Wireless Network Connection and choose View Available Wireless Networks.
  • Click Change Advanced settings.
  • On the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box - General tab:
    • Click Wireless Networks tab.
  • On the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box, Wireless Networks tab:
    • Check Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings.
    • Click Add.
  • On the Wireless network properties - Association tab:
    • Network name (SSID): GCWireless
    • Check Connect even if this network is not broadcasting.
    • Network Authentication: WPA2
    • Data encryption: AES
    • Click Authentication tab.
  • On the Wireless Network Properties - Authentication tab:
    • EAP Type: Protected EAP (PEAP)
    • Click Properties button.
  • A Protected EAP Properties window displays.
    • Uncheck Validate server certificate.
    • Uncheck Enable Fast Reconnect, Enable Quarantine checks, and Disconnect if server does not present cryptobinding TLV.
    • Under Select Authentication Method, verify that Secured password (EAPMSCHAPv2) is selected.
    • Click Configure.
  • An EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window displays.
    • Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password.
    • Click OK.
    • Close out of all remaining dialog boxes by clicking OK or Close.
  • If you have successfully completed this process an alert will display from your system tray (next to the time display on your task bar). Click inside the alert to validate your credentials.
  • In the Enter Credentials window, enter your User name and Password.
  • If you are authenticated successfully, an alert will display from the system tray (next to the time display on your task bar) saying you have been connected successfully.

Configure GCWireless Wireless on Windows 7 Computer

  • Start Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center

  • Click Manage wireless networks
  • Click Add
  • Click Manually create a network profile
  • Enter the following information:
    • Network name: GCWireless
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption type: AES
    • Check both Start this connection automatically and Connect even if network is not broadcasting
  • Click Next.
  • Click Change connection settings
  • Click Security tab.
  • Makes sure (PEAP) is selected as an authentication method and then click Settings
  • Uncheck Validate server certificate, make sure (EAP-MSCHAP v2) is selected as Authentication Method and click Configure
  • Make sure Automatically use my Windows logon name and password is unchecked.
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK.
  • Click Close.
  • Computer will automatically connect to wireless network and prompt you for your Garrett College username and password.

Configure GCWireless Wireless on Mac OS X 10.6 Computer

  • From the Menu Bar, click on the icon for your AirPort Wireless Card (called Wifi in Lion) and verify it is turned on. If it say "AirPort: Off", click "Turn AirPort On".
  • When the AirPort is on, click "Join Other Network..."
  • In the dialog that appears, enter the information as follows:

    • Network name: "GCWireless"
    • Security: WPA2 Enterprise, selected from the drop-down
    • User Name: This is your Garrett College User Name
    • Password: Your Garrett College Password
    • 802.1X: Leave on "Automatic"
    • TLS Certificate: Leave on "None"
    • Remember this network: Checked
  • Click Join and the dialog will disappear.
  • If you entered the previous information correctly, after a few seconds, a dialog will appear asking you to "Verify Certicate". Click Continue.
  • The next dialog will ask for your User Name and Password. This is the User Name and Password for the computer account, not necessarily your Garrett College User Name and Password. Once you enter your credentials, click OK.
  • If you have entered a correct User Name and Password, the dialog will disappear and return to your desktop. Your AirPort should now be connected and the black signal strength icon in the Menu Bar.

Configure GCWireless Wireless on an iPhone

  • Go to Settings -> General -> Network -> Wi-Fi
  • Select Other to configure network.
  • Network Name: GCWireless
  • Security: WPA2 Enterprise
  • Enter your Garrett College username and password
  • Select Join
  • Certificate Accept
