Garrett College Tutoring Services

Do you need extra help?
Any Garrett student can receive tutoring, and this service is absolutely FREE. Please stop by Room 404 (in the trailer) to pick up an application. All information is confidential. As a tutee, you will receive:

blue bullet Individual instruction tailored to your level of understanding.
blue bullet Instruction free of competition - you will be free to progress at your own pace.
blue bullet Encouragement and feedback.
blue bullet Skills demonstrated to you instead of simply verbalized.

Peer Tutor Program
Garrett College provides a tutoring service for students who need additional help in their studies. For any course work in which you need assistance, please contact the Assistant to the Dean of Academic Affairs at Ext. 3102 or room 404 (in the trailer).

The goal of the Tutoring Program is multi-faceted. Benefits of the program
include:

blue bullet Increased proficiency in academic skills
blue bullet Improved self-esteem and self-confidence.
blue bullet Improved attitudes toward academic studies.
blue bullet Positive role models.

We are in need of Tutors
Are you interested in helping your peers? We are in need of tutors in all areas of study. Peer tutoring can be a rewarding experience for everyone involved. As a tutor, you will receive:

blue bullet A sense of pride and accomplishment for having helped someone else. Increased academic mastery.
blue bullet A greater sense of dedication to your own instruction. Increased self-esteem, confidence, and sense of adequacy as a result of being named a tutor.
blue bullet A new or increased sense of responsibility. Empathy for the students for whom learning may be much more of a struggle.

Application for Tutor Position (pdf 15k)

As a peer tutor, you will receive compensation based on an hourly rate. If you are interested in giving an hour or two a week to help another student, please contact the Assistant to the Dean of Academic Affairs for an application at 301-387-3102 or room 404 (in the trailer).
