Garrett College is committed to the principle and practice of Equality of Opportunity and Affirmative Action in employment and education.

  • Admission. Garrett College provides an easily accessible education for all students who can profit from college-level instruction. All high school graduates are eligible for admission to the College. Students who have not received a high school diploma may be admitted on a provisional basis. No individual is denied admission to Garrett College because of race, religion, social, economic, or political affiliation.
  • B. Treatment. The College will also ensure that all students are treated without discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, creed, political affiliation, marital status, national origin, age, and physical or mental limitations. Specifically, this equitable treatment will include the following areas:
    • Access to and participation in course offerings and extracurricular activities, including campus organizations and competitive athletics.
    • Eligibility for financial aid and access to all college services.
    • Use of available facilities.

In addition to Affirmative Action guidelines, Garrett College monitors its policies and procedures as they relate to the following Federal Legislation:

  • Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, as amended, prohibits discrimination against students on the basis of sex, including admissions and recruitment of students; denial or differential provision of any aid, benefits, or services in any academic, extracurricular, research, occupational training or other education program or activity; financial or other benefits.
  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, states: "No qualified handicapped person will, on the basis of handicap, be excluded from participation in, or be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity which receives or benefits from Federal financial assistance."
