Residence Life

Welcome to Residence Life!

On behalf of the Office of Residence Life, I welcome your participation in our residential community here at Garrett College. The Office of Residence Life strives to provide Garrett College students with a safe and enjoyable living environment conducive to academic success, community development, and personal growth. We endeavor to develop a sense of community and citizenship among residents living in the halls as well as teach students about the rights and responsibilities of living in a community. We accomplish this by promoting respect, empowering students to positively affect the community, advocating and adapting to the changing needs of students, and providing programs and experiences to compliment their academic and personal goals. Please take some time to explore our website as it provides helpful information about our staff and programs.

Best wishes for a productive and successful year!

Kate Heiser
Coordinator of Residence Life

Garrett Hall Residents: What to Bring
Laker Hall Residents: What to Bring
Items NOT PERMITTED in campus housing

Application Process

Students requesting residence hall accommodations are required to complete the Housing application and return it with the $20 non-refundable housing application fee. Apply early. Students will receive a confirmation letter from the Residence Life Office following the receipt of their application.

Room Assignment Process

Residence hall room assignments are made on a first-come, first served basis, according to the date the $20 non-refundable housing application fee and completed housing application are received.

Housing Contracts for fall semester are available to sign after your application has been accepted and are mailed from the Residence Life Office at that time.

Students are ready to be assigned to a residence hall room when the Residence Life Office receives all four items listed below:

· A completed housing application
· The $20 non-refundable housing application fee (approval needed before student receives a contract)
· A signed Housing Contract for the academic year requesting housing with the $200 damage deposit
· Registered for classes

Fall semester room assignments are mailed to students beginning in July and continue until the residence halls open in September.

Remember, the Residence Life Office must have received confirmation for all four items listed before a student will receive a residence hall room assignment.

Cancellations

Students may cancel their residence hall application at any time BEFORE they have signed the Housing Contract. After a student has signed his/her Housing Contract, he/she is advised to read their contract carefully before canceling.

Cancellations must be submitted in writing to the Residence Life Office, 687 Mosser Road, McHenry, MD 21541.
