Tuition & Fees at Garrett College

Garrett College tuition and fees vary, depending on the number of credit hours you take and whether you live in Garrett County, in another Maryland county, or out of state. The College reserves the right to change tuition and fees at any time at the discretion of the Garrett College Board of Trustees.

Tuition rates on this page are for credit courses only.

Garrett College recognizes the continuing financial hardships faced by many students and their families. Although GC must adhere to a state-mandated tuition rate formula, we are using GC Tuition Assistance Grants to alleviate a portion of the increase.

The College reserves the right to provide some or all instruction and related academic activities through alternative methods of delivery, including remote delivery. It also reserves the right to change the method of delivery before or during an academic term in the event of a health or safety emergency or other circumstance when it determines that such change is necessary or in the best interests of the campus community. Tuition and mandatory fees will not be reduced or refunded if the College changes the delivery method for any or all of an academic session.

Special Tuition Rates and Waivers

If you fit into one of these special categories or are pursuing certain degrees, you may be eligible for reduced or waived tuition as a student at Garrett College.

A special Border County tuition rate is available for verifiable residents of:

  • Somerset and Fayette counties in Pennsylvania
  • Preston, Tucker, Mineral, and Grant counties in West Virginia

West Virginia residents from the following counties who enroll in the designated programs listed below are eligible to receive in-county tuition rates.

Verifiable residents of Barbour, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Harrison, Marion, Mineral, Monongalia, Pendleton, Preston, Randolph, and Taylor counties may enroll in the following programs:

  • Addictions Counseling (A.A.S. and Certificate)
  • Cybersecurity (A.A.S or Certificate)
  • Elementary Education (A.A.)
  • Fine and Performing Arts Concentration (A.A.)
  • Natural Resources & Wildlife Technology (A.A.S.)
  • Outdoor Leadership & Adventure Education (A.A.S.)
  • Paramedic (A.A.S. and Certificate)
  • Sport Management (A.A.S.)

Verifiable residents of Pocahontas and Tucker counties may enroll in the following programs under the West Virginia Reciprocity Program:

  • Addictions Counseling (A.A.S. and Certificate)

  • Fine and Performing Arts Concentration (A.A.)
  • Natural Resources & Wildlife Technology (A.A.S.)

Garrett College offers several programs of study that have received the Statewide Designated Programs or Health Occupation Shortage Programs status from the State of Maryland. Verifiable Maryland residents who meet all required criteria and enroll in the following programs will receive the in-county tuition rate.

  • Outdoor Leadership & Adventure Education (A.A.S.)

Health Occupation Shortage Programs:

  • Addictions Counseling (A.A.S. or Certificate)
  • Paramedic Studies (A.A.S.)

The State of Maryland offers tuition waivers for various special populations:

  • Maryland residents 60 years of age and older
  • Maryland residents out of the workforce due to total and permanent disability
  • Maryland National Guard Personnel 50% Tuition Waiver (see your Unit Commander)
  • Maryland Foster Care and Homeless Youth (click here for application)

As an open-admission institution, Garrett College grants admission to eligible students regardless of immigration status. Through the Maryland Dream Act legislation, some non-U.S. citizens who attended high school in Maryland may be eligible to receive in-county or out-of-county tuition rates (click here for more information and detailed eligibility requirements).

Local/state agencies may be able to provide funding to support a student’s education in the form of tuition/fees, transportation, child care, and other needs. Eligibility for funding is determined by the agency and may be limited to certain academic majors and workforce development programs.

  • Western Maryland Consortium -- Garrett College is an approved Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) training provider. These programs focus on providing training for people who are out of work or whose skills need improving in order to obtain a new job. These programs focus on providing training for people who are out of work or whose skills need improving in order to obtain a new job. Cost of attendance definitions

The following categories are required by HEA, Section 472; 20 U.S.C. 107ll; and as modified by FAFSA Simplification Act PL 260, Division FF, Title VII):

  • Tuition & Fees – an amount normally assessed a student carrying the same academic workload, as determined by the institution
  • Books, course materials, supplies, and equipment – an allowance for books, course materials and equipment, which must include all such costs required for all students in the same course of study, including a reasonable allowance for the rental or upfront purchase of a personal computer, as determined by the institution
  • Transportation – an allowance, as determined by the institution, which may include transportation between campus, residences, and place of work
  • Miscellaneous personal expenses – an allowance, as determined by the institution, for a student attending the institution on at least a half-time basis
  • Living expenses – an allowance for food and housing costs, as determined by the institution, to be incurred by the student attending the institution on at least a half-time basis
