A Day with AARP Maryland to be offered at the Grantsville Outreach Center

Garrett College in coordination with AARP MD is sponsoring a class, A Day with AARP Maryland, at the Grantsville Senior Center. The class will be held on Friday, September 21, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Join us for lunch and learn the latest information on the following topics:

  • AARP Fraud Watch Network: working to empower individuals to protect oneself from fraud and scams. Vigilance against scammers is the number one weapon. By taking a few practical steps, participants will have the power to stop fraud before it happens.
  • Participants are encouraged to bring in old documents that contain personal information so that they may be shredded, in an effort to protect one’s finances and personal account information. A shred truck will be on-site.
  • Home Fit: Information provided to help individuals safely remain in their own home as they age. The program leads participants through the process of thinking about each area of their current home in terms of whether it will meet their needs as they age from the viewpoint of accessibility/livability. Examples of strategies to make the home more accessible, products available to make these changes and professionals available for consultation are given.
  • Tax Reform: How Does the New Tax Reform Law Affect You? Join AARP Maryland’s, Ted Meyerson, as he discusses key points around tax reform and how older adults will be affected.

Although this event is free, registration is required due to limited seating and providing lunch. To register for the course, contact Garrett College Continuing Education & Workforce Development at 301-387-3069.
