Adventure sports students compete in nearby climbing competitions

Students enrolled in the adventure sports management program at Garrett College recently competed in three nearby events and competitions, as members of the Garrett College Adventuresports Institute (ASI) Climbing Team.

Daisy DeMonte (Nottingham, Md.), Caleb Cramer-Garnette (Silver Spring, Md.) and Irie Jefferson (Cheverly, Md.) participated in the bouldering competition held at the University of Maryland in early November. DeMonte placed third in the beginner category.

A second bouldering competition took place in mid-November at West Virginia University. Veronica Sheriff (Friedens, Pa.) and Mary Zook (Harrisonburg, Va.), both ASI students. Sheriff placed fourth overall and Zook placed fifth overall in the competition. Adventure Sports associate professor David Erbe also competed.

The third and final competition took place on December 10. Four ASI students competed in the York College Climbing Competition in Pennsylvania: Daisy DeMonte, Veronica Sheriff, Kaitlyn Yerger (Rockwood, Pa.) and Mary Zook. DeMonte placed second in the beginner category followed by Zook, who placed third in the Top Rope Competition. Yerger and Sheriff competed in the intermediate category.
