Garrett College Golfer Competes in National Championship
Zack Harvey concluded his freshman year at Garrett College by qualifying for the NJCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship at Chautauqua, N.Y. The four day event was held June 5th - June 8th at the Chautauqua Golf Club and was hosted by Jamestown Community College.
Harvey finished 54th place overall and he commented on the trip to Nationals. “It was an awesome opportunity to play in the Division III Golf Championship. It was my first time playing in a four day stroke play tournament, and even though I didn’t play as well as I would have liked to, it was a great experience. My goal is to practice a lot and work hard to qualify again for this event next year so I can do even better.”
The Garrett Lakers Golf Team competes in the fall and in the spring against Maryland and Pennsylvania colleges. Garrett College Athletic Director Dennis Gibson and Head Golf Coach Max Hill are working on recruiting to help grow the golf program.
Gibson stated, “Max Hill and Zack Harvey are reestablishing the foundation that we have built over the years in our golf program which emphasized outstanding local players. With Max adding his credentials as a teaching professional as the head coach, this is a great opportunity for players to increase their skill level and vie for a national championship. We are proud of both of you and your representation of Garrett College and Laker Nation”.
