Garrett County College Expo Scheduled for October 10

The Garrett County College Expo, sponsored by Garrett County Public Schools and Garrett College, will be held on the morning of Tuesday, October 10, 2017, to be held at Garrett College in the Special Events Center (the former gymnasium). The Special Events Center is located on the main campus, by Mosser Road (directional signs will be posted).

This year the College Expo will be an entirely daytime event. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from over 45 colleges, universities, trade and technical schools, military branches, the Maryland State Police, unions and apprenticeship programs, and various workforce opportunities. Seniors will be bused from the high schools and will meet with the representatives from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. After meeting with the representatives, the students will then attend two seminars from 10:20-11:25 a.m., one on financial aid followed by a panel discussion about postsecondary planning and opportunities. Juniors will be bused from the high schools to meet with the representatives from 10:20-11:25 a.m. The event is free and open to the public, and parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Home school and private school students are also welcome to attend.

A scholarship booklet with information on nearly 100 scholarship opportunities will be available, courtesy of Garrett County Public Schools. The Garrett College Foundation will award two book scholarships to a senior student from each high school.

The participating representatives will share information on a wide variety of postsecondary programs for training and study, student support, athletic opportunities, scholarships and financial assistance. The Garrett County College Expo provides a great opportunity for students and parents to explore the many options for furthering education in the region.
