Kalie's Crew takes home $3,821 at Run for It event

Members of Kalie's Crew recently participated in the Tucker Community Foundation's annual Run For It event held in Davis, W.Va. to support the Kalie Hostutler Ashby Academic Achievement Fund at Garrett College.

According to Kelly Stadelman, Development Director of the Tucker Community Foundation, 1,363 participants took part in this year's Run For It event, raising over $238,000 for 88 organizations throughout eight counties (

Kalie's Crew consisted of 51 participants, made up of Ashby's family and friends, along with numerous Southern Garrett High School student-athletes and coaches, and raised a total of $3,821.

Top finishers for Kalie's Crew are as follows: Serena Lewis (SGHS Cross Country), third place, female 15-19 age group; Anthony Moon (Oakland), second place, male 20-29 age group and eighth place overall; and Christopher Wheeler (Garrett College), fifth place, male 15-19 age group and 14th place overall.

The Kalie Hostutler Ashby Academic Achievement Fund honors the value Ashby placed on higher learning and her commitment to the local community. The Fund's textbook scholarships support incoming Garrett College students who graduate from Southern Garrett High School (Oakland, Md.).

"Kalie was an alumnus of Southern Garrett High School," stated Kim DeGiovanni, Fund Chair and employee of Garrett College College, "and it's great to see the Southern student-athletes who come out every year to support the fund. With the help of her family and friends, the fund reached endowment level last year, meaning her legacy will continue to shine for years to come."
