Reece Duncan, general manager of the Slippery Mermaid Sushi Bar in Sewickley, Pa., will be entertaining guests at the Garrett College Foundation’s upcoming spring scholarship benefit on May 10th beginning at 6 p.m. at Twin Tails Event Farm in Oakland. All proceeds for the event will support scholarships for Garrett College students.

The 9th annual scholarship benefit promises to be an exciting evening filled with unique entertainment and food, including a live sushi presentation and tasting for guests, courtesy of Duncan. He will delight, educate, and entertain those attending the benefit; his ultimate goal is to make everyone love sushi!

An alumni of Southern Garrett High School, Duncan attended both Frostburg State University and West Virginia University. He formed enduring friendships with fellow high school classmates and has strong family ties in the Oakland area. He first visited the Deep Creek Lake area at the age of 12. In 2005, he encouraged his family to relocate from Florida as a result of his love for the area.

After college, he encouraged his family to open a second location of The Slippery Mermaid, in an effort to relocate back to the Deep Creek Lake area. The location is situated on a quaint main street in Sewickley, Pa.

Duncan has been honored with many accolades in the Pittsburgh, Pa. culinary community as a result of his unique style and presentation. With the restaurant in its fifth year, the business continues to be successful.

This past October, he married Gina Stuck, a native of Garrett County, after a 10 year courtship. The couple were married at Twin Tails Event Farm, where the long-awaited celebration was complete with fireworks.
