Maryland Boater Safety to be offered at Garrett College in McHenry

Garrett College is offering a Maryland Boater Safety course at the college’s McHenry campus. The session will be held Saturday, August 4th from 8:30 am to 5 p.m.

The Maryland Basic Boating course provides all of the basic information in order to boat safely and enjoy one’s time on the water. What are the ‘rules of the road’ when there’s no road? Find out the latest laws regarding personal floatation devices, required safety equipment, operating personal watercraft and towing procedures. Practice some chart reading and review the channel marker system in coastal waters.

Individuals born after June 1, 1972 are required to have an approved boater’s safety card in their possession when operating a power boat in Maryland. Successful completion of this course will provide that card. The course is open to those 12 years of age and over and parents and grandparents are welcome to take the course as a refresher. Boater safety is family safety!

Participants will receive a class book at the time of registration and must bring their text to class with completed pre-test and quizzes.

To register, persons may contact Garrett College Continuing Education & Workforce Development at 301-387-3069.
