GC's Mundey wins title at USCAA tournament

Sophomore is first tournament champion in program history

This past weekend, the Garrett Lakers wrestling team competed against 13 other colleges in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) tournament in Uniontown, Pa.

Davy Mundey, a sophomore from Berkley Springs, W.Va., won the 174 lb. weight class, and became the first tournament champion in the history of GC's wrestling program.

"Davy was behind by a point with only ten seconds to go, and got a takedown with 2.1 seconds remaining in the third period to win the championship," noted John Chambers, GC's wrestling coach.

Fellow teammates sophomore Tanner Clark (Berkley Springs, W.Va.) placed second in the 285 lb. weight class, followed by freshman Loic Tuego (Columbia, Md.) placing fourth in the 235 lb. class, and sophomore Garrett Beaulieu (Accident, Md.), finishing in fifth place in the 184 lb. class.

The GC wrestling team will next compete on February 22nd in Scranton, Pa. for the eastern district/national qualifier tournament.
