NRA Basic Rifle course slated in Grantsville

McHenry, MD – The NRA Basic Rifle course is being offered through Continuing Education and Workforce Development of Garrett College. The class is scheduled for Saturday, January 25th from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the College’s Northern Outreach Center located in Grantsville.

Designed to teach the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a rifle safely, this course is perfect for the new rifle owner and serves as an introductory course for more advanced hunting or competition rifle match training. The basics of marksmanship are the lifelong building blocks for many other hunting or shooting sports.

The goal of the class is to familiarize the student with the correct operation and maintenance all types of rifles, along with teaching how to handle and shoot them safely. Topics include the following: gun safety, operation of different types of rifles, ammunition knowledge, rifle selection, storage and the five shooting fundamentals.

Classroom instruction will be held at the Garrett College facility. Students will then provide their own transportation to complete live fire training and a shooting qualification on NRA approved targets at a range in Frostburg, Md. and will receive a rifle handbook and a course completion certificate.

All materials will be provided by instructor and are included in the cost of the course. Please note: students are not permitted to bring ammunition of firearms. Students will need to sign a waiver of liability and provide their own lunch. Any person of good character who is not legally disqualified from possessing a rifle in the U.S. can attend this class. Individuals under the age of 18 are required to be accompanied by an adult.

The class is taught by John W Sagal, USAF Veteran, MSP Retired, and owner of Mountain Maryland Firearms Training, formally known as Boston Hill Training.
