Registration open for Veterinary Assistant classes slated for October

Program can be completed in five months by taking two evening classes a week

Continuing Education and Workforce Development of Garrett College is now accepting applications for the Veterinary Assistant training program to begin in October. Classes will begin on October 8th at 5 p.m. at the Garrett College Career Technology Training Center (CTTC) located in Accident.

GC's training program includes both classroom instruction and hands-on practical experience in various veterinary clinics. The training program can be completed in approximately five months by attending class two evenings a week. Instruction will be provided by a Certified Veterinary Technician as well as the opportunity for students to work with veterinarians while completing the clinical experience instruction portion of the program.

The Veterinary Assistant program meets the National Association of Veterinary Technicians of American (NAVTA) guidelines and requirements for clinical experiences, certifications/licensing of instructors, and curriculum content.

Veterinary assistants aid in kennel care, assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians during exams of domestic animals, and provide support throughout the veterinary office. Veterinary assistants work in animal shelters, animal emergency centers, and veterinary practices.
