Smart Money for Older Adults to be offered through Garrett College

Garrett College in coordination with the University of Maryland Extension is sponsoring a two-session course, Smart Money for Older Adults, on Thursday and Friday, April 5 and 6, 1 - 2:30 pm, at the Northern Outreach Center in Grantsville.

Smart Money for Older Adults is designed to provide you with information and tips to help prevent common frauds, scams and other types of elder financial exploitation in your community. Participants will recognize and reduce the risk of financial exploitation, guard against identity theft, and learn about helpful resources for managing money. Smart Money for Older Adults is a program developed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

The course is being by Dr. Jesse M. Ketterman, Jr. who works as an Extension Educator for University of Maryland Extension serving Allegany, Garrett, and Washington counties focusing on financial and health insurance literacy. He began his career in the University System of Maryland in 1999 working in student affairs leading wellness related initiatives and transitioned to Extension in 2016. Dr. Ketterman earned a PhD in Educational Leadership from Touro University International, Masters’ degrees in Business Administration and Education from Frostburg State University, and a Bachelor’s Degree from West Virginia Wesleyan. He is an Accredited Financial Counselor.
