Payroll/Accounting Assistant

Garrett College invites applications for a full-time Payroll/Accounting Assistant.

This position performs diverse, complex and responsible payroll tasks relating to the preparation of the payroll; maintenance of records, calculating deductions, processing tax and benefit disbursements, and required recordkeeping.

The applicant must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities upon application:


  • Local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to payroll accounting.
  • Principles of Business, Accounting, and automated accounting systems.
  • College policies and procedures regarding finance and human resources.
  • Standard administrative and clerical procedures and systems used in payroll and finance.
  • Computer software used within department to include but not limited to Microsoft Office applications, database, and spreadsheet computer applications.


  • Strong written and oral communications and relational skills.
  • Multitask a variety of projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff.
  • Strong Analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Following and relaying complex oral and written instructions, policies and procedures.
  • Operating a variety of office equipment, including computer, printer, calculator, fax, and copier.


  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Lifting no more than 25 pounds; lifting items above head; stooping and bending.
  • Mentally analyze a situation, solve problems, and make decisions under pressure in area of responsibility.
  • Read and understand written instruction and communicate information and ideas in clear and concise written form.

Experience Required: Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll related functions.

Associate’s Degree in a related field is preferred.

2021-11-18 Variable Hour Custodial Technician McHenry Campus View  

Variable Hour Custodial Technician

Garrett College is seeking applicants for a variable hour custodial technician. (24 -30 hours per week.) This position works night shift from 10 PM to 6 AM. Weekends are required. There are no benefits associated with this position other than sick and safe leave.

Duties of the custodial technician include, but are not limited to, the following: performing all tasks related to cleaning and housekeeping of the campus facilities and, as necessary, for the generalized security of the campus and related College property.

Candidates for this position should possess: some knowledge of the operation of motorized maintenance equipment and materials; the ability to read and write; ability to follow written and oral instructions; the ability to read and work from simple diagrams; the ability to get along well with others; the ability to work alone and possess a valid driver’s license. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Position requires significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.

2021-10-13 Lifeguards for Community Aquatics and Recreation Complex (CARC) McHenry Campus View   Download  

Community Aquatics & Recreation Complex (CARC) is seeking applicants for Lifeguards.

Applicants must have a current certificate in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid. Training and Certifications are available on site. The work schedule will vary, including mornings, nights, weekends, and some holidays. The facility opens at 6am and closes at 8:30 during the weekdays, 8 am-8pm on Saturday, and 10am-6pm on Sunday. There will be physical demands of patrolling the pool deck, making water rescues, and performing CPR. Life guards are required to attend monthly In Service training. The work is indoors.

Personal protective equipment, one hip pack, and one uniform tee shirt will be provided and are required while on duty. Lifeguards are responsible for patron safety. They should be able to assess a situation and quickly respond to an emergency.
