Garrett College invites applications for a full-time Faculty in Engineering to join its team in a new state-of-the-art STEM Center in McHenry, Maryland.

This 10-month faculty position (Assistant/Associate Professor rank based on qualifications and experience) is responsible for the preparation, development, and presentation of classroom and laboratory material; the academic advisement of students; and participation in the academic planning and assessment process.

Garrett College is searching for an outstanding and enthusiastic individual for a full-time faculty position in engineering to being in the spring of 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a variety of engineering courses. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the person filling this position is expected to be actively involved in departmental and campus committees and will participate in curriculum development as well as program and student learning assessments.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or near completion) with at least 12 graduate semester hours in mechanical/electrical/computer engineering or a closely related field.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience: community college teaching experience is preferred.

Garrett College is located approximately 180 miles west of Baltimore/Washington D.C. and 120 miles south of Pittsburgh. The College is within walking distance of scenic Deep Creek Lake and the Wisp Ski Resort.

Hiring Range: Assistant Professor: $58,415 to $69,460; Associate Professor: $64,403 to $76,579. An outstanding benefits package is available shortly upon hire.

2023-08-23 Instructors for I Can Swim McHenry Campus View   Download  

Community Aquatics & Recreation Complex (CARC) is seeking applicants for Instructors for the I Can Swim program. I Can Swim is a blended learning experience for Garrett County’s kindergarten students. It is a combination of water safety in the classroom and swim lessons in the pool.

The program runs for 9 weeks in the fall and 4 weeks in the spring during the school year. Hours are 9am-2pm Monday-Thursday. Instructors must enjoy working with children and have some background in aquatics and/or water safety with some knowledge of swimming.

Instructors are responsible for working with a team of instructors to keep the students safe while creating a fun learning environment. Instructors are responsible for classroom set up, classroom tear down, and day to day organization of classroom time.

Garrett College is seeking applicants for a full-time custodial technician. This position works primarily from Wednesday through Sunday from 10 PM to 6 AM. This position is responsible for performing all tasks related to cleaning and housekeeping of the campus facilities. As part of the Facilities Department staff, this position is also responsible, as necessary, for the generalized safety of the campus and related College property.

Initial placement is $15.00 to $17.83 per hour depending on your work experience. Third shift premium is an additional 5% per hour. We offer an outstanding fringe benefit package. Health plan is available the first of the month after hire date. Paid time off which includes is available after the successful completion of a 90-day provisional period.

2023-07-10 Adult Education Instructor - Family Literacy McHenry Campus View  

Part-time instructor is needed to teach a Family Literacy/GED® Exam preparation class scheduled to start in September 2023. The Adult Education Program is grant funded through the Maryland Department of LABOR and the Federal Department of Labor through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.

The class will be held at a Family Literacy site location during daytime hours.

Position Duties

  • Planning and conducting classroom instructional activities in math, social studies, science and language arts.
  • Linking academic lessons to Family Literacy activities.
  • Coordinating basic skills testing, progress, and GED® Ready assessments
  • Maintaining grant required student records
  • Assessing progress towards achieving individual student educational goals & program goals.
  • Developing and implementing individual and group lesson plans.
  • Planning and conducting classroom activities to prepare students for a career or post-secondary training.

Minimum Education Requirements

Bachelors’ Degree

Essential Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Teaching experience preferred but not required if the candidate has other experiences demonstrating the ability to meet position duty requirements.
  • Possess knowledge of the principles and practices of adult education.
  • Ability to provide individualized instruction to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Knowledge of and experience helping students with learning disabilities or differences.
  • Familiar with various instructional methods including experiential and contextualized learning.
  • Ability to use technology to meet students’ needs and accelerate learning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective learning environment for a diverse group of students.
  • Monitor student performance to promote completion of the training program.

2021-10-13 Lifeguards for Community Aquatics and Recreation Complex (CARC) McHenry Campus View   Download  

Community Aquatics & Recreation Complex (CARC) is seeking applicants for Lifeguards.

Applicants must have a current certificate in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid. Training and Certifications are available on site. The work schedule will vary, including mornings, nights, weekends, and some holidays. The facility opens at 6am and closes at 8:30 during the weekdays, 8 am-8pm on Saturday, and 10am-6pm on Sunday. There will be physical demands of patrolling the pool deck, making water rescues, and performing CPR. Life guards are required to attend monthly In Service training. The work is indoors.

Personal protective equipment, one hip pack, and one uniform tee shirt will be provided and are required while on duty. Lifeguards are responsible for patron safety. They should be able to assess a situation and quickly respond to an emergency.
