Garrett College, a two-year learner-centered college located in a rural four-season recreational environment in western Maryland, seeks an outstanding and enthusiastic individual for a full-time Assistant Professor position in the Cybersecurity/Information Technology program to begin in the fall of 2019. The successful candidate will have the ability and demonstrated experience to teach a variety of cybersecurity and information technology courses including programming, cybersecurity security, networking and other related subject areas. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the person filling this position is expected to be actively involved in departmental and campus committees and will participate in curriculum development as well as student learning assessments.

Qualified applicants will hold a Master's degree (or near completion) with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related field. At least two years of full-time college teaching experience, or equivalent is preferred, as is a commitment to a learner-centered environment marked by academic integrity while community college teaching experience is highly desired. Since the information technology program is heavily hands-on, industry certifications such as A+, Net+, or Security+ are strongly encouraged. Additionally, Garrett College seeks applicants who can contribute to the enrichment of the multi-cultural and learning environment of the College.

The Adventuresports Institute (ASI) of Garrett College currently has one full time faculty position opening for August 2019. The Search Committee is actively seeking candidates who share the College's commitment to quality education and lifelong learning in a small, close knit, educationally-oriented environment.

ASI offers a two-year Associates in Applied Science Degree and a one-year Certificate in Adventure Sports Management focusing on students who excel in experiential learning environments, are passionate for adventure education and thrive in expeditionary leadership settings.

Garrett College overlooks Deep Creek Lake and the WISP Ski Area in the Allegheny Mountains of western Maryland. We are surrounded by stunning natural resources, diverse geology, and a distinct four-season climate that come together to create the perfect setting for the outdoor classrooms of our adventure sports program. Located one mile from campus, the Adventure Sports Center International, both a destination and a resource for outdoor and adventure-based recreation, provides a learning laboratory for our students. ASI is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Adventure Sports with a salary range of $43,019 to $60,376 with full benefits package one month after hire date. Salary scale placement based on education and prior experience.

  • Responsibilities: Play a key role in furthering the development of ASI's field course track in rock climbing, professional development activities, and land-based backcountry travel. Teach both theory and field courses possibly including, but not limited to, survey courses in recreation, program planning, or leadership development; field courses in the skill areas of back country living/LNT, rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, canoeing or rafting, sea kayaking, ropes course facilitation, mountain biking, Nordic skiing, and/or winter adventure skills: Coordinate program practicums; serve on college committees; academically advise program majors; recommend purchase of program equipment; drive an 11- passenger van pulling an equipment trailer; and play a part in actively recruiting new program majors. This position will work closely with nearby Frostburg State University's Bachelor of Science Degree in Adventure Sports Management, as Garrett College is the program's field skills instructional location.
  • Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree in adventure education, recreation, or related field; teaching proficiencies in adventure sports field activities as evidenced by prior work experience and documented field log; must have successfully acquired a Wilderness First Responder and CPR certification prior to start date.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Instructor/instructor trainer certifications from any nationally or internationally recognized certifying body such as AASI, AMGA, ACA, ACCT, LNT, NASAR, NSP, PCGI, PSIA, SOLO, WEA, WMA, or WMI. Preference given to applicants with recreation journalism, outdoor photography, adventure media, wilderness therapy and/or adaptive/inclusive recreation experience.

Garrett College invites applications for a full-time Assistant Director of Aquatics and Facilities for the Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex (CARC).

This position is responsible for providing, administering, and managing quality aquatic programs and services and the aquatic portion of the Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex (CARC). The position is also responsible for planning, directing, managing and overseeing the program operations of the Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex (CARC) including the development and implementation of dynamic events for the campus of Garrett College. This position will serve as the lead administrator of the CARC when the Director is absent.

The Residence Life Manager is responsible for the overall management of the quality of life within the residential halls. S/he is responsible for the personnel, programmatic, and facility resource management associated with creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, living environment which supports the College mission. Integral responsibilities include:

  • Overall daily operations of the residence halls including staff supervision, building maintenance, planning and implementing residential programming, community building, policy enforcement, and crisis intervention.
  • Ensure that the residence halls are safe, secure, clean environments which support the students' pursuits of an educational degree, as well as their growth and development.
  • Work with student staff in creating and implementing activities and programs that develop community, are responsive to students' needs, and are conducive to the academic mission of the College.
  • Work in collaboration with the Student Activities Manager, faculty and staff to engage students in service learning, civic engagement, and volunteerism.
  • Work in cooperation with other college departments to create a caring and purposeful living-learning community in the residence halls.
  • Provide leadership in creating a residence hall environment which fosters understanding, appreciation and celebration of diversity among residents and staff.
  • Requires working some evenings and weekends, as well as involving the transportation of students (as assigned by supervisors) as needed.

C.N.C. Machining Instructor C.T.T.C. View   Download  

Garrett College has a need for two (2) part time C.N.C. Machining Instructors to teach non-credit/workforce development classes scheduled to start in September 2015.

Classes are held two evenings per week at the Career Technology Training Center in Accident, Maryland. Instruction is provided using curriculum meeting the requirements of the National Institute for Metalworking Skill, Inc. (NIMS). Haas milling and turning equipment is used for instruction.

C.N.C. Courses offered include: Job Planning, Benchwork & Layout, C.N.C Program Set Up and Operation for both milling and turning, C.N.C. Turning and Milling.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Teaching experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of ages and skill levels.
  • Work experience & personal C.N.C. machining skills to support teaching the content for courses listed above.
  • Instructors are not required to have earned NIMS credentials; however, individuals selected for the position will be asked to work towards this goal.
  • Ability to implement the NIMS curriculum to prepare students for the theory and hands-on NIMS credential testing.
  • Assist students in the use of computer based training.
  • Monitor student performance to promote completion of the training program.
  • Experience with Haas equipment is not required and training is available if needed.

    The Continuing Education and Workforce Development division of Garrett College is seeking part-time instructors to support the expanding Workforce Development courses listed below. The classes will be conducted at the Career Technology Training Center (CTTC) located in Accident, Maryland.

    Building Maintenance: Experience maintaining and completing minor repairs in multiple areas of building maintenance including exterior and interior walls, HVAC, appliances, electric/lighting and plumbing.

    Construction Technology: Skilled in the use of methods commonly used in residential construction including safety, masonry, floor/wall/roofing/stair system, basic residential electrical wiring, basic plumbing and HVAC and dry wall installation.

    Electronics: Knowledge of the overall electronics trade and experience with current and emerging technologies.

    Welding: SMAW, GMAW, FCAW equipment set-up and welding techniques. Welding symbols, print reading and math required in the welding profession.

    Pipefitting: Experience with pipe fabrication and installation in various environments.

    Instructor Skill Requirements: Certification, education and/or experience in the area of instruction. Some teaching experience preferred but not required. Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students.

    Salary: $20 to $30 per hour based on experience and course content.
