Community Aquatics & Recreation Complex(CARC) is seeking applicants for Instructors for the I Can Swim program.

I Can Swim is a blended learning experience for Garrett County’s kindergarten students. It is a combination of water safety in the classroom and swim lessons in the pool.

The program runs for 8 weeks in the fall and 6 weeks in the spring during the school year. Hours are 9am-2pm Monday-Thursday. Instructors must enjoy working with children and have some background in aquatics and/or water safety with some knowledge of swimming.

Instructors are responsible for working with a team of instructors to keep the students safe while creating a fun learning environment. Instructors are responsible for classroom set up, classroom tear down, and day to day organization of classroom time.

Community Aquatics & Recreation Complex(CARC) is seeking applicants for Lifeguards.

Applicants must have acurrent certificate in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid.

The work schedule will vary, including mornings, nights, weekends, and some holidays. The facility opens at 6am and closes at 8:30 during the weekdays, 8 am-8pm on Saturday, and 10am-6pm on Sunday. There will be physical demands of patrolling the pool deck, making water rescues, and performing CPR. Life guards are required to attend monthly In Service training. The work is indoors.

Personal protective equipment, one hip pack, and one uniform tee shirt will be provided and are required while on duty.Lifeguards are responsible for patron safety. They should be able to assess a situation and quickly respond to an emergency.

08-12-2019 Assistant Athletic Trainer McHenry Campus View   Download  

Garrett College invites applications for a full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer. This position will be required to administer all areas required as an athletic trainer including but not limited to; injury care and prevention, first aid, injury rehabilitation, planning and record keeping for athletes. In addition this position will be required to assist with data tracking of athletes, assist athletic director with day to day operations, game management responsibilities at assigned games, and social media updates.

Qualifications: Master's degree in a related field. Bachelor's degree from a CAATE accredited program. One to three years of athletic training experience is preferred. First Aid/CPR/AED instructor preferred. Must have a Certified Athletic Trainer Certificate.

Pay range is $36,268 to $47,149. Outstanding benefits package is available shortly upon hire. Paid time off is offered after successful completion of the ninety-day (90-day) provisional period.

Job Description:

This position involves the coordination and facilitation of the College and Me program for 5th graders from the Garrett County Public Schools. Each 5th grade class spends 4 days in classrooms at Garrett College where they receive instruction, lessons and activities that may not be offered within the regular 5th grade curriculum. College and Me serves to increase the students’ awareness, knowledge and understanding of post-secondary and college education.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education.
  • Eligible for Maryland State Department of Education certification.
  • Experience with the instruction of elementary-aged students.
  • Understanding of child development.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The College and Me Coordinator is responsible for working with all elementary schools’ Principals, the 5th grade teachers and staff at Garrett College to coordinate and implement the College and Me program. This includes:

  • Deciding on classes to be offered,
  • Teacher recruitment when needed,
  • Scheduling of daily College and Me classes and activities with teachers and staff,
  • Contacting and scheduling each of the 5th grade classes by working with each elementary principal and the 5th grade teachers,
  • Having or providing substitute instruction should a teacher be unavailable for a lesson or activity.

Garrett College, a two-year learner-centered college located in a rural four-season recreational environment in western Maryland, seeks a full-time Residence Life Manager.

The Residence Life Manager is responsible for the overall management of the quality of life within the residential halls. S/he is responsible for the personnel, programmatic, and facility resource management associated with creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, living environment which supports the College mission. Integral responsibilities include:

  • Overall daily operations of the residence halls including staff supervision, building maintenance, planning and implementing residential programming, community building, policy enforcement, and crisis intervention.
  • Ensure that the residence halls are safe, secure, clean environments which support the students’ pursuits of an educational degree, as well as their growth and development.
  • Work with student staff in creating and implementing activities and programs that develop community, are responsive to students’ needs, and are conducive to the academic mission of the College.
  • Work in collaboration with the Student Activities Manager, faculty and staff to engage students in service learning, civic engagement, and volunteerism.
  • Work in cooperation with other college departments to create a caring and purposeful livinglearning community in the residence halls.
  • Provide leadership in creating a residence hall environment which fosters understanding, appreciation and celebration of diversity among residents and staff.
  • Requires working some evenings and weekends, as well as involving the transportation of students (as assigned by supervisors) as needed.
  • Preserve civility and tranquility, for maintaining an environment conducive to study, and for ensuring conformity to rules and regulations.
  • Preferred candidate will have experience with staff selection; experience with staff training; student conduct experience; emergency response/crisis management experience and experience advising student organizations.

The Residence Life Manager must maintain permanent residency in a designated College residential facility (two bedroom, two bathroom apartment on campus).

Qualifications: Bachelors Degree and related experience in college or university housing and/or residence life required.

Preferred: Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, Management, Public Administration, Sociology or other related education field is strongly preferred.

Hiring Range: $33,738 to $53,980. Excellent fringe benefit package available shortly upon hire. Paid time off is available after successful 90-day provisional period.

Garrett College, a two-year learner-centered college located in a rural four-season recreational environment in western Maryland, seeks an outstanding and enthusiastic individual for a full-time Assistant Professor position in the Cybersecurity/Information Technology program to begin in the fall of 2019. The successful candidate will have the ability and demonstrated experience to teach a variety of cybersecurity and information technology courses including programming, cybersecurity security, networking and other related subject areas. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the person filling this position is expected to be actively involved in departmental and campus committees and will participate in curriculum development as well as student learning assessments.

Qualified applicants will hold a Master's degree (or near completion) with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related field. At least two years of full-time college teaching experience, or equivalent is preferred, as is a commitment to a learner-centered environment marked by academic integrity while community college teaching experience is highly desired. Since the information technology program is heavily hands-on, industry certifications such as A+, Net+, or Security+ are strongly encouraged. C.N.C. Machining Instructor C.T.T.C. View   Download  

Garrett College has a need for two (2) part time C.N.C. Machining Instructors to teach non-credit/workforce development classes scheduled to start in September 2015.

Classes are held two evenings per week at the Career Technology Training Center in Accident, Maryland. Instruction is provided using curriculum meeting the requirements of the National Institute for Metalworking Skill, Inc. (NIMS). Haas milling and turning equipment is used for instruction.

C.N.C. Courses offered include: Job Planning, Benchwork & Layout, C.N.C Program Set Up and Operation for both milling and turning, C.N.C. Turning and Milling.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Teaching experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of ages and skill levels.
  • Work experience & personal C.N.C. machining skills to support teaching the content for courses listed above.
  • Instructors are not required to have earned NIMS credentials; however, individuals selected for the position will be asked to work towards this goal.
  • Ability to implement the NIMS curriculum to prepare students for the theory and hands-on NIMS credential testing.
  • Assist students in the use of computer based training.
  • Monitor student performance to promote completion of the training program.
  • Experience with Haas equipment is not required and training is available if needed.

    CEWD Adjunct Instructors at CTTC C.T.T.C. View  

    The Continuing Education and Workforce Development division of Garrett College is seeking part-time instructors to support the expanding Workforce Development courses listed below. The classes will be conducted at the Career Technology Training Center (CTTC) located in Accident, Maryland.

    Building Maintenance: Experience maintaining and completing minor repairs in multiple areas of building maintenance including exterior and interior walls, HVAC, appliances, electric/lighting and plumbing.

    Construction Technology: Skilled in the use of methods commonly used in residential construction including safety, masonry, floor/wall/roofing/stair system, basic residential electrical wiring, basic plumbing and HVAC and dry wall installation.

    Electronics: Knowledge of the overall electronics trade and experience with current and emerging technologies.

    Welding: SMAW, GMAW, FCAW equipment set-up and welding techniques. Welding symbols, print reading and math required in the welding profession.

    Pipefitting: Experience with pipe fabrication and installation in various environments.

    Instructor Skill Requirements: Certification, education and/or experience in the area of instruction. Some teaching experience preferred but not required. Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students.

    Salary: $20 to $30 per hour based on experience and course content.
