Americorps Vista School Connection Coordinator McHenry Campus View  

Position Description:

  • Assist in the development of learning models focusing on career readiness, college readiness, and servicelearning for local middle school after-school programs in Garrett County (Northern and Southern) • Recruit volunteers to serve as youth mentors
  • Assist in identifying and pursuing additional funding opportunities for enrichment programs and events
  • Connect with school counselors and other GCPS faculty/staff to infuse experiential learning activities into the after-school programs
  • Identify and develop partnerships with community members and agencies
  • Create an advisory council of key stakeholders pertaining to the initiative that will meet regularly to propel the progress of the P20 CONNECTS program further in a collective-impact model
  • Assist in the coordination and facilitation of connecting various representatives from GCPS, Garrett College, and the community to identify community needs and plan lessons and service projects to address these needs
  • Compile data and monitor progress

Garrett College, a two-year learner-centered college located in a rural four-season recreational environment in western Maryland, seeks an outstanding and enthusiastic individual for a fulltime Assistant Professor position in the Computer Science/Information Technology Department to begin in the fall of 2018. The successful candidate will have the ability and demonstrated experience to teach a variety of computer science and information technology courses including programming, cybersecurity security, networking and other related subject areas. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the person filling this position is expected to be actively involved in departmental and campus committees and will participate in curriculum development as well as student learning assessments. Qualified applicants will hold a Master’s degree (or near completion) with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related field. Since the information technology program is heavily hands-on, industry certifications such as A+, Net+, or Security+ are strongly encouraged. This position is responsible for guiding and directing assigned faculty and staff in the management, delivery and evaluation of a variety of academic programs; ensures compliance with policies and procedures, federal, state and local rules and regulations, and accreditation requirements; provides support to the Dean of Academic Affairs (DAA) to carry out academic policies; develops and implements academic programs; develops and implements placement testing programs; provides faculty orientation and professional development programs; oversees AASC; develops, implements and assesses developmental writing and mathematics instructional programs and outcomes; oversees adjunct faculty hiring, training, evaluation and professional development; provides oversight of Disability Services; oversees development of course schedule.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in an appropriate academic or professional discipline; doctorate preferred; 2-3 years’ experience working in developmental studies; 2-3 years’ fulltime college-level teaching experience; supervisory experience at the department chair level or its equivalent in higher education; and documented knowledge of and/or experience in disability services in a higher education setting.

C.N.C. Machining Instructor C.T.T.C. View   Download  

Garrett College has a need for two (2) part time C.N.C. Machining Instructors to teach non-credit/workforce development classes scheduled to start in September 2015.

Classes are held two evenings per week at the Career Technology Training Center in Accident, Maryland. Instruction is provided using curriculum meeting the requirements of the National Institute for Metalworking Skill, Inc. (NIMS). Haas milling and turning equipment is used for instruction.

C.N.C. Courses offered include: Job Planning, Benchwork & Layout, C.N.C Program Set Up and Operation for both milling and turning, C.N.C. Turning and Milling.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Teaching experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of ages and skill levels.
  • Work experience & personal C.N.C. machining skills to support teaching the content for courses listed above.
  • Instructors are not required to have earned NIMS credentials; however, individuals selected for the position will be asked to work towards this goal.
  • Ability to implement the NIMS curriculum to prepare students for the theory and hands-on NIMS credential testing.
  • Assist students in the use of computer based training.
  • Monitor student performance to promote completion of the training program.
  • Experience with Haas equipment is not required and training is available if needed.

    CEWD Adjunct Instructors at CTTC C.T.T.C. View  

    The Continuing Education and Workforce Development division of Garrett College is seeking part-time instructors to support the expanding Workforce Development courses listed below. The classes will be conducted at the Career Technology Training Center (CTTC) located in Accident, Maryland.

    Building Maintenance: Experience maintaining and completing minor repairs in multiple areas of building maintenance including exterior and interior walls, HVAC, appliances, electric/lighting and plumbing.

    Construction Technology: Skilled in the use of methods commonly used in residential construction including safety, masonry, floor/wall/roofing/stair system, basic residential electrical wiring, basic plumbing and HVAC and dry wall installation.

    Electronics: Knowledge of the overall electronics trade and experience with current and emerging technologies.

    Welding: SMAW, GMAW, FCAW equipment set-up and welding techniques. Welding symbols, print reading and math required in the welding profession.

    Pipefitting: Experience with pipe fabrication and installation in various environments.

    Instructor Skill Requirements: Certification, education and/or experience in the area of instruction. Some teaching experience preferred but not required. Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students.

    Salary: $20 to $30 per hour based on experience and course content.

    English as a Second Language Instructional Aid S.O.C. View  

    Part-time ESL (English as a Second Language) instructional aides are needed to support new ESL classes scheduled to start in September 2015. The ESL/Adult Education Program is grant funded by the State of Maryland Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation and the Federal Department of Labor through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.

    Classes are planned to be conducted in Friendsville two (2) evenings per week or on Saturday morning and possibly in Oakland two (2) evenings per week.

    Position Duties:

    • Translate and assist the ESL instructors to establish a positive learning environment for students new to the English language or students attending class to improve their reading, writing and math skills.
    • Assist in explaining the directions and the purpose of basic skills testing including placement and progress testing.
    • Assist the ELS Instructor in activities to assess progress towards achieving individual student educational goals & program goals.
    • Assist in the delivery of individual and group lesson plans for all ESL Education Function Levels.

    Minimum Education Requirements:

    AA degree or equivalent experience.

    Fluent in Spanish

    Essential Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Bi-lingual. English and Spanish.
    • Ability to assist in providing individualized instruction to meet the unique needs of each student.
    • Basic computer skills and the ability to assist students in using technology to learn.

    Salary: $12 to $15 per hour based on experience.

    Fluent in conversational Spanish preferred but not required.

    • Teaching experience preferred but not required if the candidate has other experiences providing instruction.
    • Possess knowledge of the principles and practices of ESL adult education instruction.
    • Ability to provide individualized instruction to meet the unique needs of each student.
