Backflow certification now available through GC’s Continuing Education division

Registration is now open for May 23rd class

Garrett College Continuing Education & Workforce Development is offering a new backflow certification program with registration now open. The backflow certification program is mostly taken as a pre-requisite for a plumbing license application or is required to keep a license with the state or a county.

Backflow happens when the flow of water shifts within a piping system, causing non-potable fluids to flow back towards clean water. This can contaminate the water people use for cleaning or drinking, leading to a wide range of problems. Although it is a preventable issue, it takes a certified expert to install and test the necessary equipment. This certification increases the services a plumber can provide, giving them an opportunity for higher wage.

This course is offered by Kruger’s Training Academy with two options available: a three day, 32-hour, initial required certification course to apply for a journey or master level plumbing trade license for the state of Maryland, WSSC and local jurisdictions; and a one day, 8-hour, recertification course to re-certify a license that is about to expire. For most service areas, the diplomas are valid for three (3) calendar years from the date of the class.

Enrollment for the next series is open now and classes will begin on May 23, 2022 and will be held at the College’s Career Technology Training Center in Accident. Individuals are encouraged to apply early and in advance for the best scholarship opportunities. Scholarship opportunities are based on first come, first serve availability.
