CNA students recognized at Garrett College

Registration currently underway for fall CNA program

Garrett College recently recognized another group of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) students that completed their training at GC, available through Continuing Education and Workforce Development.

Garrett’s CNA program, instructed by Karen Neel, consists of 75 total hours in the classroom and lab setting. Following the classroom portion of the program, each student completes 40 hours of an externship, working with experienced CNAs in a clinical setting. After completion of the externship and required skills testing, students are able to apply for their CNA licenses through the Maryland Board of Nursing.

Certified Nursing Assistants provide direct care to patients, clients, or residents of either a facility or agency. Working as a team member, the CNA takes vital signs and helps patients bathe, dress, eat, and go to activities.

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN), CNAs provide personal, hands-on care to patients, residents, or clients. The CNA provides assistance with essential daily tasks such as dressing, eating, toileting, and personal hygiene.

Orientation dates are currently scheduled for entry into the fall program. Registrations are being accepted with a limited space available. The fall CNA class will begin on September 3, 2019 and is scheduled for Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Garrett College Career Technology Training Center located in Accident.

For additional information about the CNA program or to register, contact Doug Beitzel, program coordinator at 301-387-3772 or doug.beitzel@garrettcollege.edu.
